A friend of mine sent me a link to U.S. Military Singles.com this morning. She thought that readers might be interested. What a great idea. The service is free at sign up and it’s “powered by TangoWire.” If you become a member of TangoWire, then you have access to a huge pool of single people.
TangoWire is a network of more than 70 online dating communities. Each community targets “both general and specialized areas of interests.” They make a big point of saying that they will never share or sell your private information and you will receive no spam.
It says that the membership …read more
Another Facebook Divorce – Football Fans Fake A Fling

Facebook helps hasten the end of another relationship. Okay, it’s not Facebook’s fault exactly but it was used a sort of shield in the situation.
While vacationing in Cancun, Stuart Slann, a resident of South Yorkshire, England, and loyal fan of the Manchester United football team, angered fans of a rival team. The men retaliated by throwing him into a swimming pool. During this altercation, Slann broke both an ankle and his rib.
After returning home, the ankle-breakers concocted an elaborate hoax wherein Stuart was enticed to drive 500 miles to meet a fictional woman named, “Emma,” that he met through Facebook for …read more

I’m writing this on my sister’s computer.
I’m down visiting my sister’s family and for some reason we can’t get my computer to recognize the internet connection here. I’m such a creature of habit and using someone else’s computer feels like I’m trying to type with my ear or something.
I’ve been chatting with someone on Plenty of Fish this week. He seems like a nice guy and his picture is cute. My friend noticed that he is “seperated,” not divorced or single. I don’t know how I missed that and usually that’s a no, in my book. Anyone who has every …read more
My Mom and Date.com

I set up a online dating personal ad for my mom at Date.com this weekend. Mom is a lovely 63-year-old woman. We live in a small town and I see a lot of mature men around, but meeting them, that’s the hard part. Mom works at a foster family agency and single gentlemen her age don’t come into her work. Her interests include working in the garden, yoga, hiking, dancing…. all put the dancing is a solitary pursuit. Meeting new people, it can be challenging. It would be wonderful if she could find a dance partner, at the very least.
Mom is cute, …read more
Internet Dating is Not Like Ordering A Pizza – Book Review and Giveaway

I just finished reading, Internet Dating is Not Like Ordering a Pizza, by Cherie Burbach.
Cherie shares advice on all aspects of setting up your online profile, including your pictures, your essay, your intro, and your search wording. She talks about the next steps – making contact, dating, etc.
She writes in a conversational manner that is easy and entertaining to read. I don’t read a lot of nonfiction books, because my work is nonfiction and I’m immersed in facts and theories and products all day. I found Cherie’s book to be fun and I’m using her ideas to tweak my profile.
She …read more

Yesterday, Match.com announced the launch of their new free online dating service. Down To Earth.com is a free site with a twist. Daters are encouraged to rate their dates, after meeting in person, on the accuracy of their profile.
DownToEarth.com’s cornerstone feature, RealRatings™, encourages daters, after meeting in person, to rate the accuracy of the information provided in the other person’s profile. The five-star rating system allows daters to score the other person’s accuracy from ‘Not Even Close’ (one star) to ‘True to Life’ (five stars). Through actively encouraging daters to participate, DownToEarth.com empowers its community to create the dating environment they’re seeking.

Drew Barrymore Is No Fan of Internet Dating

I thought I’d give an update on my internet dating situation. I have profiles at two places, one a free service, and the other is at Match.com.
At the free service, I have been “favorite-ed” by 5 men. They have not contacted me in any way, just the favorite-ing. I find this odd. What do they do after that? Do they think about writing to me? Do they put me on list of people they will possibly contact? What are they waiting for? It’s a mystery to me.
Over at Match.com, I’ve been contacted by one guy – he’s written to me …read more

Maybe I’m Unlovable

I have an online dating profile over at Match.com. I’m not officially “single,” but when my boyfriend refuses to answer the phone or an email, for weeks at a time I no longer consider myself committed. This has been going on, off and on, for a year now. If my boyfriend decides to pull it together, where I am concerned, then I feel that our relationship is salvageable, but for now, I’m open to meeting someone new.
Unfortunately, my profile is generating little or no interest. I do hear (rarely) from men who are 10-15 years older than me, but I don’t feel I …read more

“Imperfection” by
enggul via FlickrHere’s the thing. I’m not perfect. I’m not living on my own right now, I’m not making quite what I’m intending to make, and I’m living with my dad for the time being.
I know, I know… the way I see the world and it’s inhabitants is far different than the way others might see it. But damn it, I was talking to a guy on IM this morning and when we got to the part where I explain how and why I’m living with my dad, he suddenly disappeared. Actually, it went something like this:
