Straight As. Always reading. Always learning. Staying up late. Making others happy. Obsessing over everything. Worrying about minutae.
And my parents, like many parents of highly academic kids, turned a blind eye to whether I was nourishing my body (not to mention my mind and soul.) I don’t blame them, but I do question why they just assumed I was eating. I wonder why they allowed me to “eat” meals in my bedroom instead of downstairs with them… why [...]
Post from: Blisstree

I was the perfect candidate for anorexia because I was so determined to be perfect in everything I did. And I mean perfect.

Straight As. Always reading. Always learning. Staying up late. Making others happy. Obsessing over everything. Worrying about minutae.

And my parents, like many parents of highly academic kids, turned a blind eye to whether I was nourishing my body (not to mention my mind and soul.) I don’t blame them, but I do question why they just assumed I was eating. I wonder why they allowed me to “eat” meals in my bedroom instead of downstairs with them… why they felt comfortable with my heading to my bedroom right after school, not to appear again until almost 10 or 11 at night to forage for a late-night “dinner”.

I guess it was because I was a straight A-er. I mean, who would think that a top-of-her-class gal would be spending all her time alone hating and starving her body? Nobody. Because, let’s face it, she’s too smart to fall for all that.
