“How To Listen To God” – Results

The last couple of days I’ve reprinted “How To Listen To God” written by John E. Batterson and reproduced at Barefoot Bob’s web site here. It was long enough I had to break it down into three parts. This is the last – the last few suggestions then the results.
“How To Listen To God”
Suggestions and results…
6. TEST
When the flow of thoughts slows down, stop. Take a good look at what you have written. Not every thought we have comes from God. So we need to test our thoughts. Here is where the written record helps us to be able to …read more

“How To Listen To God” – Specific Suggestions

Yesterday I duplicated the beginnings of “How To Listen To God” written by John E. Batterson and reproduced at Barefoot Bob’s web site here. It is still my opinion it is worth it to repeat and pass it along far and wide.
“How To Listen To God”
Specific suggestions…
With the basic elements as a background, here are specific suggestions on How to Listen to God:
1. TAKE TIME
Find some place and time where you can be alone, quiet and undisturbed. Most people have found that the early morning is the best time. Have with you some paper and pen or pencil.
2. RELAX
Sit in …read more

“How To Listen To God”

John E. Batterson wrote this and Barefoot Bob has reproduced it at his web site here. It is simply my opinion it is worth it to repeat it and pass it along far and wide.

These are a few simple suggestions for people who are willing to make an experiment. You can discover for yourself the most important and practical thing any human being can ever learn – how to be in touch with God. All that is needed is the willingness to try it honestly. Marathon Meetings

I know there will be some for the holidays in Suffolk County, LI, NY. There will also be marathon meetings here in Savannah, Ga. at the Twenty Four Hour club for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Beginning at midnight tonight, every two hours a new meeting will begin and the last meeting will be at midnight Thanksgiving night in Savannah.
It has been quite some time since I went through a holiday knowing that the holiday was, in reality, a serious drinking day. More often than not I could drink through a holiday without having to spend any money. My father-in-law was thrilled to …read more

Desiderata ['Cuz I Need It - Do You?]

I’ve posted this before and you can find it many places online and elsewhere. There is a great deal of comfort in these words;
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there …read more

September – National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

And I didn’t know it. Well, like I said at today’s meeting – it isn’t Perfect’s Anonymous…
September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. B5 media’s Health and Wellness Channel (check out B5’s new design btw) is taking the moment to present our collective individual experiences with the Twelve Steps. Or, we’re going to do the research needed to offer our readers valuable information on the Twelve Steps relating to a number of areas in the human nature.
If you are a new reader here are the Twelve Steps according to Alcoholics Anonymous. There are over 2000 other …read more

To The Point Of Real Absurdity

From “Indelible Humility” printed in the Grapevine Dec. 1990 and reproduced at Silkworth.net. (pdf.)
Thanks again Alex…
“No look at anonymity as practiced by AA can be truly complete without including the question: is it possible for an AA member to be too anonymous? Too anonymous for the good of the individual and the Fellowship? The answer is ‘yes.’ And there are more than a few examples of this: members who feel they must not tell their families or their friends or coworkers or doctors or ministers or lawyers that they are members of AA.
There have even been instances when …read more

Affected By The Drinking Of Someone Close To You?

Buddy T. offers to help you at About.com.
Al-Anon Quiz – Are You Troubled By Someone’s Drinking?
“Millions of people are affected by the excessive drinking of someone close. Many times people who are close to alcoholics do not even realize how much they have been affected by someone else’s drinking.”
Buddy offers you this quiz to help you decide whether the Al-Anon Family groups might work for you.
One specific question that rings a bell with me – “Do you feel that if the drinker cared about you, he or she would stop drinking to please you?”
Buddy also offers you a resource for …read more

Selling Newcomers Short

I don’t remember who it was, it may have been Matt M. He told me that the folks who had been here before us, who had put their blood, sweat, and tears into the collective experience of Alcoholics Anonymous, would someday move on and leave something to us – a legacy.
We were to be entrusted with this legacy in order that Alcoholics Anonymous continue to be available for all who suffer from alcoholism, for all who wish to recover, for all who, by God’s grace, were going to walk into our rooms.
That legacy was for us to pass this “thing” …read more

The Serenity Prayer – Long Version – Repeated

The Serenity Prayer
GOD, grant me the serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change,
Courage to change the
things I can, and the
wisdom to know the difference.
Living ONE DAY AT A TIME;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardship as the
pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this
sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make
all things right if I
surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy
in this life, and supremely
happy with Him forever in
the next. Amen
Just mho, it never gets old and the repetition can’t hurt…
