More Than Just a Bowl of Nuts

You’ve got a bowl of nuts to serve your guests. Frankly, you know you could do better. Nuts are great, but serving them just as they are can be a tad boring. Here are some ways to jazz up that bowl of nuts.
Barbecued Nuts. In a hot pan, mix together Worcestershire and catsup, then throw in the nuts until they’re coated. Spread them out on a baking dish and toast for about 15 minutes. Season with salt to flavor.

Tree Nuts and Diabetes

Tree nuts (pecans, almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts, pine nuts, walnuts, and hazelnuts) have for some time been known to help reduce the risk of heart disease. Now there is evidence to suggest that they may reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes. Researchers from the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto are presenting a paper at this week’s Experimental Biology Annual Meeting in New Orleans to support this theory.

Let’s talk about peanuts
Have you been tracking the details of the peanut-plant salmonella contamination and food recalls? How scary is that? That contamination has gone on this long and the one plant never having been inspected?
Personally, I’d like to see the justice system go Erin Brokovich on his ass – lock him in a room with nothing to eat or drink but water and his own peanut products.
