A study published last year notes that a little green can help speed healing. The study, conducted by the Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreation Resources, Kansas State University, showed that patients recovering in rooms with potted plants or flowers, “Had significantly fewer intakes of postoperative analgesics, more positive physiological responses evidenced by lower systolic blood pressure and heart rate, lower ratings of pain, anxiety, and fatigue, and more positive feelings and higher satisfaction about their rooms” then patients without plants and flowers in their rooms.

Talk about a noninvasive, inexpensive, and effective complementary medicine for patients right!?

Plant benefits to humans don’t end there either. Some of the many other proven benefits to people having plants, trees, and green spaces nearby include…

• Less asthma in children
• Fewer incidences of obesity
• Healthier elderly individuals
• Healthier indoor air quality

Studies show that all sorts of green is healthy – plants, trees, flowers, any green. So if you’re looking for some easy green changes to make, grow some plants, plant some trees, or purchase some flowers for inside your home.

Plants Great for Healing Hospital Patients

So we finally get chatting on IM, and I learn that he works with two guys I know from the fire department. One of them is a total piece of crap, so I tell the guy that if he’s going to do any checking up on me, to NOT ask that guy. We have a mutual hateship going on, and neither of us has anything good to say about the other. The other kid, I tell him is a sweetheart and he can surely ask him anything he likes.

While we’re chatting, I decided to call up the firehouse and see if the kid’s there, and lo and behold he is. I tell him that I just met this coworker of his online and we’re chatting, and I found out about them working together, yadda yadda… can you see where this colossal dating mistake is about to lead?

Yes… stupid, too honest ME tells new guy that I talked to him. Effing DUH, right? He was all, “You already talked to him? Wow.”

Now, for what it’s worth, I was told he’s a “cool guy” and everything. But it was quite apparent to me that he wasn’t all that thrilled that as soon as I found out we had mutual acquaintances that I made a phone call. We chatted for a little bit longer before he had to go to bed, but this was on Monday. It’s now Thursday, and I’ve yet to hear another word.

Sure, maybe he’s busy, maybe he just likes to go realllllllly slow with things. Who knows? But ladies (and gents), for the love of all things on Earth, if you do some investigating of someone new, do NOT let them know about it! LOL

Hopefully he’ll realize that it was a fluke kind of thing, that I wasn’t trying to find out anything “dirty” on him or whatever, and he’ll give talking to me another shot. Hopefully he’s just been busy. You know I’ll keep y’all posted.

I made a colossal dating mistake. Learn from me!

• “I like a woman who takes pride in her appearance.” – Easy translation on this is, “I like women who aren’t fat.” Okay, sure… we all have things we will and won’t tolerate in terms of physical attraction, but the guys who say this either say NOTHING ELSE about what they’re looking for in a woman, which makes me want to say, “I take more pride in my emotional maturity, intellect, and sense of humor than I do my body, but I guess all that’s irrelevant to you,” or they say that they want a woman who is smart, sexy, funny, loves to cook, loves fishing, hiking, camping, and NASCAR, has a great body, loves mountain climbing, has a great job, works out a lot, and so on and so on and so on. Guys, have you EVER IN YOUR LIFE met a woman like that? I mean, even your mom? Come off it already…
• “I’m just looking to have a good time and see what happens.” Uh, what exactly is your definition of a “good time” and how many times a week, with how many different women, are you seeking this “good time”? Does wanting to just have a “good time” mean that you seriously expect that there are women out there who want to have a miserable time with you? What about this “see what happens” business? Does that mean you’re basing your ideas on a potential relationship on how good of a time you have with a girl? Are there Cliff’s Notes on this, please?
• “I have bad luck with the women that I meet, so I decided to try online.” Uh, okay, well answer me this: What the hell is wrong with YOU? I mean, you’ve never had a good relationship? Ever? And I’m supposed to attempt one with you? After you admitted that you suck? Okay then…
• “I’m finding that the VAST majority of the women on this site HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE what they are missing.” No, my dear… I think I’m pretty sure of exactly what I’m missing. And I really can’t see a reason to complain about that, you kind of just proved that to me.
• “New to the area, looking for some hot girls to hang out with and have some fun with. Message me if you are interested.” Are you completely effing serious? Like dude, if you have this in your profile, please tell me how successful you’ve been. (That’s ALL he has written in his profile… nothing else.)

Rant: Horrid things men say in their dating site profiles.

This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what a$sholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.

Ode to the Nice Guys (A rant written for the Wharton Undergraduate Journal)

It’s a bit of a read but it sure is worth it. Fun, interesting and definitely entertainingly informative. LOL.
