It’s one of those “protective” type attraction things I think. But anyway, he’s cute. Pretty eyes, nice face, and so on.

So we finally get chatting on IM, and I learn that he works with two guys I know from the fire department. One of them is a total piece of crap, so I tell the guy that if he’s going to do any checking up on me, to NOT ask that guy. We have a mutual hateship going on, and neither of us has anything good to say about the other. The other kid, I tell him is a sweetheart and he can surely ask him anything he likes.

While we’re chatting, I decided to call up the firehouse and see if the kid’s there, and lo and behold he is. I tell him that I just met this coworker of his online and we’re chatting, and I found out about them working together, yadda yadda… can you see where this colossal dating mistake is about to lead?

Yes… stupid, too honest ME tells new guy that I talked to him. Effing DUH, right? He was all, “You already talked to him? Wow.”

Now, for what it’s worth, I was told he’s a “cool guy” and everything. But it was quite apparent to me that he wasn’t all that thrilled that as soon as I found out we had mutual acquaintances that I made a phone call. We chatted for a little bit longer before he had to go to bed, but this was on Monday. It’s now Thursday, and I’ve yet to hear another word.

Sure, maybe he’s busy, maybe he just likes to go realllllllly slow with things. Who knows? But ladies (and gents), for the love of all things on Earth, if you do some investigating of someone new, do NOT let them know about it! LOL

Hopefully he’ll realize that it was a fluke kind of thing, that I wasn’t trying to find out anything “dirty” on him or whatever, and he’ll give talking to me another shot. Hopefully he’s just been busy. You know I’ll keep y’all posted.

In three relatively easy steps, you’ll be on your way to meeting Mr. or Miss Right!

ShoppingLifestyle Personals is like your normal social networking site (Friendster, Facebook) but it has the same features as Hobnobster. Yea, it has that mobile messaging installed wherein you can message a potential date. It also has the typical email alerts of potential matches but like any other dating site, you have to spend a lot of time “managing” and “propagating” your account.

Anyway, I don’t see any real harm to trying this sort of thing. Esp when you’ve exhausted the other dating sites. LOL. It is FREE to REGISTER. It’s good to note that bit. I’m quite certain that the messaging part has charges. Hehe.

Have any of you signed up for it? How is it so far? Any insight that may help others who may be interested? Do share!

When looking for love online, eight out of 10 people lie about their appearance by making themselves an inch or so taller or trimming a few pounds, according to a survey of Internet daters.

Over half of the men questioned, or 52.6 percent, made themselves taller while 39 percent of women claimed greater height.

Women more commonly trimmed their weight to make themselves more appealing, with 64.1 percent of women registering a false weight compared to 60.5 percent of men.

When it came to age, 24.3 percent of the men were untruthful, compared with 13.1 percent of the women.

Do online daters NOT see the impact these little white lies could potentially have?

For the sake of this discussion, lets say that you do lie on your profile – you add an inch or two and subtract 20 pounds or so. Do you NOT ever plan on meeting anyone in person? If so, don’t you think it’s going to be obvious that You ARE a LIAR?

Let’s go a bit further here and say the person you meet is willing to overlook these little white lies, but later on, once a relationship begins to form – that same person begins to look back on when and how the two of you met when the LIGHTBULB goes off….

They realize they are dating a LIAR! And begin to think about the bigger picture – IF you are so willing to lie about the small stuff – they’re wondering what about the big stuff? Would you lie about that too?

How can you possibly anticipate a relationship that was established on such a week foundation as a lie, to succeed?

Isn’t it better to lump it from the beginning and just tell the truth?

Wouldn’t you much rather fall in love with someone that is willing to overlook that inch you feel you are lacking or that bit of extra poundage your lugging around and know that your relationship was built on the foundation of painful yet total honesty?

Why would you lie? Have you lied? Did it work or did it backfire?

eTwine Holdings, Inc’s. and IamFreeTonight.com has unveiled a unique online dating tool. Just when I thought there was so little anyone could do to improve online dating, this new “Date Now!” concept is released. Date Now allows singles to find and schedule dates in a matter of seconds.

Date Now is designed to specifically with busy single professionals in mind.

It seems browsing profiles – finding a match and then emailing back and forth in order to get to know one another before arranging a date is becoming outdated.

IamFreeTonight.com’s Date Now! feature gives users the ability to post when they’re free to go out and what they’d like to do on their date. Members can select from a preset list of activities for their date ranging from coffee to cocktails and can also include a message with further details in their posting.

Once a “Date Now” has been posted, members simply wait for the responses to roll in and then select who they’d like to go out with that night. In addition to posting their own availability, members can search the Date Now listings and sort by day and activity to find a date.

At first glance this seems to be a hopping little online community and would appear there are many who feel secure enough in posting for a “Date Now” – though I don’t think I would be one of them.

I did notice there were several that were posting for “double dates” which is a brilliant idea! In this immediate gratification world we live in, isn’t there anything that’s worth waiting for anymore?

Do you or would you consider utilizing the services of IamFreeTonight.com and Date Now?

Has the internet created a platform whereby the expectations of singles are reaching far beyond obtainable?
Are people expecting to meet someone that looks like Brad Pitt or Jessica Simpson, has a bank account that could make Bill Gates anticipate losing his position on the list of the wealthiest, has the work ethics of Ward Cleaver and the parenting skills of Ozzy Nelson?
Are people expecting to find “the dream” lurking behind the next clicked profile that’s just been added to an online dating site?
Well, it’s not going to happen!

I’m not saying that people should “settle” exactly, but they shouldn’t anticipate anything above “comfortable” when shopping for love.

I had no idea that online dating sites were now incorporating a “rating system” that would allow other members to rate profiles based on various criteria. How can that possibly be an honest measure to base your own interest on? It can’t!

To me, if I were to see someone with a low rating, I’d be more attracted to the low numbers than the high ones, simply because that would tell me that the person had the courage to piss a few people off on their quest – than Mr. or Ms. Social Butterfly who feels the need to mollycoddle everyone who responded to their ad.

Ellen Gamerman of The Wall Street Journal took a much deeper dive into this rating system and the damage it’s causing in the heart of the single scene, so I’d encourage everyone to check it out to see some of the new challenges that are being presented to people who are using the dating sites. Perhaps shine a little light on just why they may be feeling like one of The Undateables.

Do you think it’s fair that dating sites allow other members to rate profiles? Do you think the ones most likely to take advantage of that feature are one’s with malicious intent?

Speak your mind! I’d love to hear!

I’ll be honest, I’ve never tried one of those Speed Dating Events, though they look fun and interesting, it wasn’t something that had developed much interest during my dating career.
So when it comes to Speed Dating, I must live life vicariously through the experiences of others and what an experience it’s been.
