These are such a great idea! Greenies have created “Pill Pockets,” a treat with a little pocket in the center perfect for fitting in a pill or even liquid when your pet needs medication.
They come in two sizes – one for larger pills and a smaller one for capsules, and they’re also available in two flavors – beef and chicken. There are also packs specifically for cats and dogs.
I’m interested in the dog treats especially since we have to give Honey pain medication every once in a while (poor old girl). We’ve been using little bits of processed cheese …read more
Dog Bone Biscuit Cutters

When I make dog treats for my dogs sometimes I like to go the extra step and use bone-shaped cutters (when I’m not in the mood I just roll the dough out and use a pizza cutter to make “nuggets“). These only really work on recipes that form a firm dough that can be rolled out.
The little one there in the center is the perfect size for our chihuahuas, and I’ve used the larger one on the left for my friends’ dogs. I don’t know anyone with a dog big enough for the largest size, but it doesn’t hurt to …read more

When I make treats for my dogs I like to make sure the ingredients are as unprocessed and “real” as possible. I like this one because it uses real meat, and I only put in half the garlic powder since the jury’s still out on how garlic affects dogs!
I also read a few years ago that small dogs need to be careful with their liver treat intake as it can thin the blood due to its high iron content, and should not be given to dogs who’ve recently …read more

Make Your Own Frosty Paws Ice Cream

Dogs like the occasional cool treat just as much as we do, so why not treat them to a homemade ice cream made just for them?
While dairy isn’t terribly good for dogs, yogurt contains much less lactase than regular milk and the live cultures are great for your dog’s digestive system. Use the ice cream just as an occasional treat!
Frosty Paws Dog Ice Cream
32 oz vanilla yogurt
1 mashed banana or one large jar of banana baby food
2 T. peanut butter
2 T honey
Blend all together and freeze in paper cups. Peel away the cups & place in your pets dish …read more
Feline Greenies

I had to stop and get some cat and dog food this morning and picked up a bag of Feline Greenies at the check out. I was a bit wary because getting our cats to eat treats is like pulling teeth – they’re very picky and usually leave whatever you give them sitting where you put it.
I put the bag with the Greenies in the laundry room and went back out to unload the food from the back of the car. When I came back in Turbo was mauling the bag, trying to get to the pack of Greenies. …read more
Mutt Muffins

My dogs love treats but only get one biscuit a day. Every once in a while I like to try something new and give them an extra little treat, but I like to make sure it’s still somewhat healthy. These muffins seem to fit the bill, and as toy breeds my dogs only need half a muffin each, at most, so they don’t disappear too fast!
Mutt Muffins
1 small jar of baby applesauce/or equivalent in regular applesauce (not flavored)
2 carrots, shredded
2 Tbsp honey
2 ¾ cup water
¼ tsp vanilla
1 egg
In a bowl, mix all wet ingredients together and add the applesauce. …read more
Cat Treat Recipe

My cats are weird. We never gave them people food when they were young so over the years they actually turn their noses up at it. You could lay down a piece of steak or some cheese and they’ll sniff it and walk away. Turbo likes tortilla chips and yogurt, though – he will hunt you down if he even suspects you’ve got yogurt.
Anyway, I made this for them a while back and even though it smelled like a fantastic cat treat they didn’t care for it. Maybe yours will?
