The added bonus of doing some holiday shopping for your pet is that you can also donate a few dollars to help shelter pets while you’re at it. Petsmart Charities is offering up cute dog and cat Christmas decorations and ornaments, with 25% of the sales going to help save the lives of homeless pets in the US and Canada.

Petco currently has a 72-hour sale going where you can get free shipping on orders over $50 and save up to 40% on select items, and they’re also featuring all your winter pet needs, including travel products and of course, holiday items. Petco Foundation also has their Tree of Hope fundraising campaign going on in stores until December 24th.

After-Thanksgiving Pet Shopping

National Pet Week celebrates the bond between people and their pets while raising awareness for responsible pet ownership and care.

PetSmart and Animal Planet, two entities that know all about the love of pets, have teamed up for a line of pet products that are sure to please the four-legged and their owners. The high quality toys feature popular Animal Planet creatures like meerkats and ostriches, and are made with safe and durable materials that are designed to help promote the well-being of animals and strengthen the bond that people have with their pets.

A portion of the sales of Animal Planet pet products will directly benefit R.O.A.R, Animal Planet’s project to help make the world a better place for animals. R.O.A.R. supports American Humane Society, Petfinder.com, World Wildlife Fund, and other principal non-profit partners.

The Animal Planet pet line launches this May at PetSmart stores nationwide.

National Pet Week was founded in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the AVMA Auxiliary and is now widely celebrated throughout the United States and other parts of the world.

Animal Planet Lands at PetSmart

On April 21st from 6-8pm, PetSmart stores around the country are throwing a birthday party. It doesn’t matter how old your pet is or when their birthday actually falls, either!

Party treats include a free framed digital photo of your pet and a free goodie bag. There will also be a “musical sits” game (similar to musical chairs) to win Purina prizes.

Until April 27th, select items in the store are also 20% off, which makes buying your four-legged friend something a little easier!

Pet Birthday Party at PetSmart

We’ve used the scooping setup on the left of the picture for our dogs’ backyard business for a couple of years and have been pretty pleased with it. Even though we had grass at our last place we decided against the rake option because rakes sometimes have a tendency to fling, and flinging and pet poop are two things I don’t want to deal with.

They’ve also got the always-handy poop bags for when your dog does his business during the morning walk (check out the biodegradable ones too), liquid cleaning solutions, and even this little pee post, which claims to “encourage your pet to ‘go’ in a specific area of your yard” due to its “pheromone-treated plastic [that] trains your pet where to urinate.” Interesting, but I think I’ll pass.
