How much of this is true, I wonder?

I can only guess that a lot of individuals find refuge by being on the internet. People tend to be less uptight and accommodating in places where people congregate online, may it be in chat rooms, dating sites, social networking site or even blogs. You have to, otherwise, no one will come visiting your profile, website, blog or chat with you. The source of comfort can be the anonymity or perhaps the chance to re-invent themselves or something else. Like I said, I can only speculate.

Personally, I’ve already met quite a number of online contacts in person and a few have become real friends and yes, I even met the guy I’m with now, online. But these don’t automatically mean that it’s easier to meet people online because I believe it depends on the individual. I spend a lot of time online, you see. My work requires me to be on the internet at least 80% of the time, hence, meeting a lot of people online. But I make sure I still spend time offline, going to clubs, parties, events or simply hanging out with my friends. In all occasions, I know I have ample opportunity to meet people. All i need to do is to practice the same friendliness then like how I am friendly and accommodating online.

Meeting People Online is Easier

It’s actually not a bad idea if you think of it. What do you really need in a site to find someone you can date anyway? Isn’t it all about finding a person whom you can connect with?

I’ve got to admit that I have gone on dates with people I met through sites like these — social networking sites, I mean. I can’t say it’s 100% better than online dating sites, it’s just another alternative to finding Mr. Right.

What I like about the dates I’ve gone to are the idea that I’m not “forced” to be romantic with them right away because all of these dates are of platonic nature, er, at least, on my part and that they are guys I’ve actually interacted with and find something in common through the sites.

I guess when I tried the online dating sites, I’m pressured by the idea that the guys expect me to go into dating and the whole she-bang straight away. I’m under the impression that the expectations are solely directed toward creating a romantic relationship. I may be at fault here but, hey, these sites aren’t called online dating sites for nothing, right?

Bottomline is perhaps if you’re not comfortable with the idea of meeting dates online, social networking sites are a good option for you. At the very least you’ll be meeting new friends you can simply hang out with if you’re not in the mood for dating just yet.

Gayla told you about my Speed Dating experience before and they’re the one who organised the event. Neil was a good host and he was pretty friendly and helpful. I went alone but he made me feel “at home” which I really appreciated.

It’s scary to go venture into something that’s totally unfamiliar to my customs or beliefs but this experience allowed me to meet a lot of people — 25 guys if you want to get technical. Imagine, I can actually say that I dated 25 guys in one night? Hehehe. And I did meet women and the owner of the cafe, too! It’s a great opportunity for you to expand your network, I tell you. Adelaide Speed Date

I did mention before that I’m pretty old fashioned when it comes to finding a potential mate, reason being I’m a romantic. I do like chance encounters so whenever I step out of the door, I’d often find myself wondering if I’m going to meet someone that day.

This thought came to mind since I’ll be heading to my home country, Philippines, tomorrow. Well, technically I’m stopping by Singapore first and spend quite a bit of time there before I head to Manila. And from my experience in travelling, I know there are possibilities that you will meet someone new. Dates may come out of some and others just plain “our paths just crossed in time” kind of thing. So, there — this is one of those moments wherein I may just meet someone.

Aside from cafes, restos or bookshops, where you can strike up a conversation with a stranger or vice versa, Airports have been added to my list of places. I guess, it’s a good thing you are able to enumerate them, right? That way, it can be clear to you just what type of people you do get to meet. That is, if they share something similar with you in terms of interests and experiences or you’ve been making mistakes in putting yourself in wrong places or situations that’s why you end up with the wrong kind of guy instead of Mr. Right.
