Every week, while watching So You Think You Can Dance with my pal, Leah, we see promos for a new dating-type reality show called More To Love. It looks like it’s set up in the same vein as the Bachelor/Bachelorette, which makes sense as all three shows are executive produced by Mike Fleiss.

The ladies in the promos are very pretty, perfectly coiffed and made up, talking about how much they want to find a true love story. I’m a sucker for that sort of thing, so I plan to watch the More To Love when it premieres on July 28, 2009.

Leah thinks that they should have picked a handsomer man, but I think he looks like a regular guy, which is what I think they are going for with this one.

Here’s a bit more from the shows website at Fox:

FOX is setting out to prove that love comes in all shapes and sizes with the new inspirational dating competition series MORE TO LOVE. Executive-produced by Mike Fleiss (”The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette”), the unscripted series follows a single average guy with a big waist and an even bigger heart as he romances several confident and secure plus-size women. Each week, the husky hunk will wine and dine a group of curvy women to determine if they have more love to give or if they are truly more than he can handle. When the size of competition narrows, he will have to decide if one full-figured lady will become his true love.

Of course, I saw it on Oprah. Whatever you think about Oprah, and hopefully you love and adore her as I do, she is definitely the most public dieter on the planet. This qualifies her as a diet expert in my opinion and I’m willing to forgo further research and try what obviously works for her. Duh.

I’ve never gone on an actual diet. This whole, making nice with and taking ownership over my own body and trying to get control of my self in its physical form is new to me. The reason I’m attempting it can be completely attributed to my age and corresponding metabolism. I’m turning 34 on Thursday and since turning 30 and birthing two children, my body is just requiring more maintenance than it used to.

After being totally pissed about it for a couple of years, I’ve discovered sitting on the couch being pissed about my body’s metabolism isn’t actually changing it. It’s just making me fat and lazy and depressed. So, after I gave birth to Mr. Zack about 16 months ago I got up off the couch and joined the gym and learned to read the food labels and ingredients lists.

I’ve gradually been making better choices since reading Dr. Oz’s YOU: The Owner’s Manual: An Insider’s Guide to the Body that Will Make You Healthier and Younger- an excellent read about how your body functions. It’s like an refresher course in biology – only fascinating.

However, I’ve been plateaued in my weight for a couple of months now – stuck in a size 12 – which is a hell of a lot better than a 16 for sure, but I’d feel better in a 10 and best in an 8. (That’s right, my ultimate goal is an 8 not a Zero.) So, I’m joining my husband in The Best Life Diet. The first month sounds like total cake.

Drink 48 ounces of water – check (64 for me)

3 meals and 2 snacks a day – check (already got rid of white bread and pasta, ahead of the game)

aerobic exercise at least 30 minutes a day – check (1 hour 4-5 days a week)

weights twice a week – check (adding on an 1 hr. 15 min. yoga 2-3 times a week)

no eating 2 hours before bed – WHATTHE?AREYOUKIDDING?NOFREAKINGWAY!TWOHOURSCAN’TREALLYMAKEADIFFERENCE!

So, that’s when I stop feeling so groovy about this diet. Those two hours are the ones in which the kids are finally in bed and I can actually enjoy my snacking. I thought I was okay with the healthy snack or the baked chips or the nuts or the dark chocolate.

No weighing for one month. So, I’ll let you know if it pays off or how difficult it is. Of course, I did quit smoking so I’m feeling like I can pretty much conquer any habit now.
