Polymer clay artist: Cindi Thayn

Cindi Thayn, owner of Clay It Again sent me some images of her delightful polymer clay dolls and jewelry.  So that you have an idea of scale, the Grandpa chess player is 6″ and the baby is 4″.  Aren’t they wonderful?  Cindi writes:
I am a self-professed poly-holic. I discovered polymer clay when I ran out of wooden beads for a simple Christmas project one year. I sent the Hubster and son to the store for beads. Hubby picked out wooden beads and son picked out a sample pkg of polymer clay, and the rest as they say is history.

Since then …read more

Craft Tutorial:How to make Cupcake Earrings

If you’re into clay, you’d enjoy this easy tutorial on making cupcake earrings for you and/or your children out of sculpey!
What is a Sculpey?
Sculpey (often misspelled as Sculpy) is the brand name for a type of polymer clay that can be molded and put into a conventional oven to harden, as opposed to typical modeling clays, which require a much hotter oven, such as a kiln. Until it is baked, Sculpey has a consistency somewhat like Plasticine. It is sold in many colors, though it can also be painted once fired. It has become popular with modeling artists. It is …read more

I got this submission from a teen-aged artist who has fallen head over heals in love with polymer clay!  With this great a start at this young an age, I predict that nothing will stand in Lovey’s way!  She writes:
My name is Lovey. I am 19 years old and I got started with Polymer clay in high school.  Since then I have been making things out of polymer clay. I make beads, and I make votive holders, vases, switch plate covers, and I have been messing around with other stuff, but that’s the basics.
I make my own designs, I don’t …read more

Polymer clay artist: Cyndi Safstrom

Cyndi Safstrom, of Be A Doll, uses polymer clay to create one of a kind dolls. Here’s how it happened:
I create look alike dolls of everyday people from my studio in Vernon Hills, IL. I use polymer clay to sculpt faces for my clients from photos, then integrate the custom head into an 11″ vinyl body. Dressed in the clothing of their choice, clients will receive a “mini me” of themselves or of a loved one.

When I created an action figure of a fellow You Tuber for his birthday in 2007, I didn’t expect it to turn into …read more

I did not discover polymer clay until a few years ago. Claying began as a way to pass time while I recovered from a horseback riding accident. Now I find that my polymer clay ornaments are the perfect harmony of my love for horses with my desire to “create”. Working with the bright colors helps pass the dreary winter days as I wait for Spring to arrive and I can begin exploring the forest by horseback again. When Spring arrives, I get to plan for new color combinations and designs as I …read more

Polymer clay bricks

What’s Up Wednesday
On Crafty Goat’s Notes, Angela takes us through the process of making a faux brick phone jack cover to match her brick walls. Very neat! I’m not a polymer clay person for the most part, but it really does intrigue me how many other surfaces it can mimic…if you know how.
Or if you have someone like Angela to help you! Thanks
