So it shouldn’t surprize you that when someone emailed and asked me:

IMG: Elizabeth Ferree

My son is 3 years old and refusing use his potty chair. Any recommendations?

My first question would be to ask if something has happened between said child and the toilet? I remember my 3 year old reacting the same way just after she learned to use her new potty, only it tried eating her. That’s what she said when she came running out of the bathroom holding her butt in her hands. She swore it tried to eat her butt, but her butt got squished when she put the lid down on it.

Another thought would be did he/she choose the toilet, maybe they are ready for a new one. Some like their own potty chairs while others like just the seat to go on the potty.

Got any thoughts or suggestions for my dear reader?

A few years back, I was over visiting my cousin. His oldest child was a girl named Morgan. She was 2 and a half.

Morgan started talking to me but I didn’t hear her because I was was holding her little brother, who was a handful. So Morgan repeats what she had said, loudly and angrily, sounding as stern as a school teacher:

“Linda, you MIGHT want to go into the bathroom and see my new dress!”

After that, you can bet I took myself into that bathroom to admire her new dress, while at the same time, the English teacher in me was wondering how a child that young had mastered such a complex grammatical construction!

Potty training overall is messy business. At least you can have a stylish, clutter free potty to get you through the had times. The Potty Bench from Boon features two nicely enclosed side storage spaces where you can hide away wipes, toilet paper, books, or whatever you like. There’s an easy pull out drawer for that cleaning up business, and the lid supports plenty of weight making it work double duty as a stool.Plus this potty is easy on the eyes; now when have you heard that?

Very slick potty, right?
