Kudzu Could Help With Prediabetes?

Kudzu is known as a vine that can grow rapidly. Because of that, it’s often thought of as a nuisance, especially in the south. Now, however, people may be singing its praises.
New research has discovered that when taking the root extract of kudzu and adding it to the regular diet of lab rats, the rats “cholesterol, blood sugar, insulin, and blood pressure levels were lower than those of rats that did not receive the extract.” This all happened without side effects as well.

Exercise Helps With Insulin Resistance

Obese teens are better off if they exercise. Diabetes Health reports that exercise can even help with insulin resistance in teens regardless if they lose weight or not. Never let it be said that exercise is meaningless!
Insulin resistance is, of course, one of the predictors to developing Type 2 diabetes. When someone is insulin resistance, their bodies need to make even more insulin and their pancreas just can’t keep up. Still, this is another testament to the benefits of exercise.

Exercise is great for all of us, but especially for diabetics. While there is no absolute when it comes to preventing diabetes, getting regular exercise is something that will benefit your overall health.
If you are diabetic, exercise helps guard against insulin resistance, which helps Type 1 diabetics use less insulin and helps Type 2’s maintain a healthy blood sugar level.

As a way to bring awareness to diabetes, the Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Diabetes and Wound/Ostomy Center in MO will be offering a free diabetes screening on Nov. 24. Two sessions will be held that day: from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hannibal Regional Hospital and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Diabetes Center at Chapel Hill (formerly HROC), 109 Virginia St. The screening includes a non-fasting random blood glucose reading, blood pressure and foot exams. No appointment is necessary.
