Up to 6 Months to Lose Baby Weight Normal

Rushing weight loss after pregnancy may not be a good idea. Overdoing weight loss attempts after giving birth could have a negative impact on breastfeeding, says the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care. Movie stars who lose baby weight in mere weeks may not be role models after all.

According to the Institute, it’s normal for women to lose the weight they gained in pregnancy within three to six months. They recommend a balanced diet and say that very strenuous exercise soon after childbirth won’t lead to extra weight loss.

I picked up my son from preschool the other day and overheard a woman say, “I gained 40 pounds when I was pregnant.” I did too. So, I naturally glanced over and gave her the once-over.
