Recently more than 90 global leaders gathered for a climate change summit in New York City to brainstorm about the affects of global warming and to come up with some possible solutions to combat the problem. President Barack Obama spoke at the summit, noting that taking zero action on climate change could leave future generations with an “irreversible catastrophe.“

Midst the controversy surrounding President Obama’s nationwide speech to school children, perhaps the discussion, even though heated at times, hasn’t been a negative experience. Perhaps this has held the President more accountable when he interacts with our young people. Was his speech changed due to the controversy? This we don’t know because only the final version has been published. But at least parents can see this version before he gives it. On Tuesday, September 8, the first day of school for many students, President Obama plans to address the nation’s school children, piping his speech from the White House into all schools (that have the technical ability). This has raised a furor among many parents.

Inspired by the First Family’s decision to plant a vegetable garden at The White House, W. Atlee Burpee & Co. (Burpee) recently decided to cultivate the company’s very own version of the White House Garden at Fordhook Farm in Doylestown, PA, where Burpee trials most of the vegetables and flowers it sells.

Recently when President Barack Obama was in Las Vegas for a special fundraiser event, he stayed at Caesars Palace. During his campaign, he was a frequent guest of the hotel. President Obama noted, “I thought I had a pretty nice room,” he said. “But now I’m president, they upgraded me. It’s a really nice room now.”

Planned Parenthood has given him a scorecard which says that “women of childbearing age spend 68 percent more in out-of-pocket health care costs than men.” The organization has given him high marks and says that he has “lived up to his pledge to make sure that strengthening women’s health is a priority in his administration.”

Before You Choose a Water Dog

Sure, Portuguese water dogs are cute. And very popular because the Obamas chose Bo. But is it really the right dog for you?
A recent CNN article, Water dogs should come with warnings, explores the breed and cautions pet lovers to do their homework before choosing this dog. It’s an active dog that needs to be with people.
According to the American Kennel Club, the breed requires “daily vigorous exercise.” In other words, if you work 60 hours a week, your Portuguese water dog may decide to get destructive for lack of activity.

Russian Ice Cream Controversy

A Russian ice cream maker has scooped up a bit of trouble with it’s new “Duet” ice cream.
They are using President Barack Obama as the symbol for their new vanilla and chocolate ice cream product. The ad features a smiling caricature of the president with the line, “It’s on everyboy’s lip – the Dark is in the White!” Apparently, this is a reference to the President’s biracial heritage.
The creative director of the ad agency insists that the intent was to to be “amusing and cheerful.” The ad agency has recieved negative reports from foreign countries. There have been no complaints …read more
