President Obama also noted that the United States is “determined to act” and has put climate at the top of the diplomatic agenda with countries across regions, from China and India to Brazil and Mexico. U.S. leader at the summit agree that security and stability of every nation are at stake with Obama recognizing that it’ll be difficult to reach a climate change agreement. However, because developed nations have caused much of the global warming damage, Obama says that we also have a responsibility to fight the effects.

Obama: climate change may be irreversible

Because of this event and the reactions:

• Parents have taken more notice of what’s being taught (or piped) in the schools to their children. Perhaps they will play a larger role in their youngsters’ education in the future.
• Hopefully parents have discussed the matter with their children and will do so when they get home today, expressing their views on why or why not this is a good idea and whether they agree with what the President has to say.
• Parents will research a bit more into the President’s philosophy behind his actions instead of accepting blindly what they think he says.
• All Americans, as well as parents, hopefully will discuss with others in a reasonable manner instead of being accusatory because their viewpoints differ. In many instances, this has become an emotional and ”place the blame” matter instead of one of sensible discussion.

Obama’s Speech & School Children

They are wondering if it’s truly education or is it mind control of our youth?  Some claim it’s an opportunity to start molding young minds with Obama’s socialist agenda.  Obama spokesmen says it’s purely an educational event, with the President talking about the value of an education.

Parents have expressed the desire, if their children’s school views the speech, that youngsters have the choice of watching or not. Many parents also are wondering why it isn’t broadcast in the evening when parents can determine whether their youngsters watch it.  Or they can discuss the event as a family.  Why is it being broadcast during the school day when parents may not have the opportunity to see and hear it?

The White House web site also has published lesson plans and ideas for teaching about Obama, the presidency and education.  There are questions to ask, projects to undertake, and discussion possibilities.  Some feel these plans have an Obama related agenda, while others consider them to be purely an extension of information about the presidency.

How do you see this event? Do you want your children to watch…or not?  Do you want them to have a choice of watching or having a study hall or reading time.  Do you want many before and after activities utilizing the lesson plans?

Obama – Education or Mind Control of Youth?

George Ball, chairman of Burpee and proprietor of Fordhook Farm says, “The White House Garden has done a great job of showcasing the advantages of growing your own vegetables. In creating our Fordhook version of the garden, we utilized the diagram they provided and created an exact replica. We chose to make some alterations in what we planted in view of soil conditions and typical weather conditions experienced over a long period of time.”

Heirloom varieties and hybrids were both included in the Burpee version of the White House Garden, because the company decided to plant what they felt would produce in greater quantities and superior quality.

Burpee’s White House Garden has an Autumn Garden Tour scheduled – open to the public on September 25 & 26. They’re also considering a special Presidential Luncheon, well, if as Ball says, “We can convince President Obama or The First Lady to attend.”

President Obama and Women’s Health Care

A recent CNN article, Water dogs should come with warnings, explores the breed and cautions pet lovers to do their homework before choosing this dog. It’s an active dog that needs to be with people.

According to the American Kennel Club, the breed requires “daily vigorous exercise.” In other words, if you work 60 hours a week, your Portuguese water dog may decide to get destructive for lack of activity.

Before You Choose a Water Dog

They are using President Barack Obama as the symbol for their new vanilla and chocolate ice cream product. The  ad features a smiling caricature of the president with the line, “It’s on everyboy’s lip – the Dark is in the White!” Apparently, this is a reference to the President’s biracial heritage.

The creative director of the ad agency insists that the intent was to to be “amusing and cheerful.”  The ad agency has recieved negative reports from foreign countries.  There have been no complaints in Russia, but Lev Ponomaryov, a Russian human rights activist is not comfortable with it at all.

Prominent Russian human rights activist Lev Ponomaryov rapped the advertisement as “a vulgar exploitation of some political symbols in pursuit of commercial interests.”

He added however: “I do not think the person who created this is necessarily a racist … But our society is xenophobic all the same.”
