Alzheimer’s Discovered 100 Years Ago

One hundred years ago this weekend, Dr. Alois Alzheimer, of Great Britain, presented the first findings about this memory loss disease. This has resulted in November being named National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month with a proclamation issued by President Bush.
More people are becoming aware of this disease and its effects on the victims and their families, who generally become their caregivers.  A summary of some of the progress made in recognizing and treating Alzheimer’s since its discovery is found in the News Indepentent (http://news.independent.co.uk/world/science_technology/article1951233.ece ).

November Proclaimed National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

President George W. Bush has proclaimed November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, a time to renew our resolve to fight this disease. It’s also a time to remember our loved ones and others who have this disease.  For me, as I mentioned in the previous post, November always brings my mom to mind because this was the month of her birthday and wedding anniversary.
In his proclamation, President Bush calls upon the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.
