As I gear up for tonight’s episode of Prison Break, now seems as good a time as any to nod in the direction of the research I kept bumping into this weekend regarding happy people vs. unhappy people when it comes to watching television.
The article I read all the way through was Science Daily’s Watching Television, Channeling Unhappiness?, which discusses researchers from the University of Maryland and the studies they conducted for over 30 years. I recommend reading the article (it’s not that long), but the entire thing is summed up near the top:

b5media’s Nikki Katz Chats It Up With Wentworth Miller

b5media’s Nikki Katz Chats It Up With Wentworth Miller

Okay, so, remember how I said I was exhausted and taking a break today? And how the fabulous Karen Lynch of Pink Ribbon Review stepped up and wrote a guest post about dealing with emotional distress?
Well, I am taking a break, and that break has involved getting caught up with the nearly two weeks worth of posts I missed over at b5media’s Prison Break Buff.
So, why am I writing a blog post?
Oh, just to let you know about all the awesome Prison Break cast interviews, Season 4 spoilers, and promotional pictures I’ve enjoyed over the past hour, and, um, oh …read more

Prison Break’s Chris Vance Stars In New Fox Drama, Mental

Prison Break’s Chris Vance Stars In New Fox Drama, Mental

Another bit of news I wish I’d known about during Celebrity Health Week.
It seems that Fox Television Studios began shooting a new drama in Bogotá, Colombia last week – Mental.
Given that the show will air on Fox International Channels in Latin America, Europe, and Asia – and I’m in America – one might wonder why I’m interested at all.
Well, it is about “Dr. Jack Gallagher, a rebellious psychiatrist in a Los Angeles mental health hospital who employs highly radical treatment methods,” so, naturally that interests me. And, according to Variety, “it will be shopped to U.S. webs [...] later in …read more

Because Sometimes We Need A Break From Our Brains

Or, perhaps, our brains need a break. However you want to see it.
I’ve decided that, from now on, Mental Health Notes will take a break from all things mental health-related on Sundays. Yeah, I know – Mental Health Notes is a mental health blog. I’m a rebel, what can I say.
Constantly talking – and reading – about depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, doctors, scientists, stress, medicine, side effects, stigma, and other such related matters can’t be good for us. Or our brains. It just can’t.
So, from now on, I’m dedicating Sundays to any other topic that gives us a break …read more

Treat Your Brain To FOX’s New Amsterdam

Treat Your Brain To FOX’s New Amsterdam

Did anyone watch New Amsterdam last night? That new FOX show about the brilliant New York City homicide detective who happens to be immortal and, um, over three centuries old?
I’m in the process of becoming a devoted viewer. Now, don’t misunderstand me. Nothing can take Prison Break’s place in my heart (not even a new FOX show that also happens to feature a female doctor named Sarah – FOX hates me) – nothing. But, New Amsterdam may become a show I watch each week.
Anyway, last night’s episode was great. Murderous psychiatrists, war veterans, and falsely-accused child abusers, oh my! Not …read more
