Crafts Involving Pumpkins

This time of year, pumpkins are prevalent in stores, at roadside farm stands, in pumpkin patches, as decorations for parties and carved for jack-o-lanterns.
What are the many ways you can incorporate a pumpkin theme in your craft work?

Decorating pumpkins with paint
Drawing pictures of pumpkins, pumpkin patches or pumpkins and children
Making pumpkin jewelry, particularly earrings
Using fabric with pumpkin designs for fiber art and mixed media.
Utilizing pumpkin decorations for a fall theme or Halloween party.
Making pumpkin cookies or cake and decorating these with jack-o-lantern faces.
Making a pumpkin costume for Halloween.  When we were growing up, my sister carved a large pumpkin, cut …read more

Photos of Youngsters with Pumpkins

Some of my memorable and colorful photos have centered around children and pumpkins in the fall.
Sometimes these involved Halloween costumes, perhaps midst colorful leaves.  Other times the photos simply consisted of my daughter, grandchildren or nieces with pumpkins they carved or have ready to decorate.
My nieces sold pumpkins from their garden for several years and had a mound of them near the road in front of their house.  My husband took  lovely photos of the girls midst their pumpkins.
I’ve included some of my pumpkin photos in the book I made, using scrapbooking techniques and my fall poetry.  Those of pumpkins and youngsters …read more

Pumpkin Inspiration in Arts & Crafts

With the coming of fall in New England, orange pumpkins make their appearance in fields, at farmstands, on porches, as jack-o-lanterns, and in recipes.  We associate them with this time of year and use pumpkin designs and colors in our crafts and decorations.
How does Pumpkin Time inspire you?

Colors in decorating
Colors and designs in fabric art
Pumpkin collages
Pumpkin and fall inspired book, like my poetry and autumn one
Pumpkin stories like my “Mama’s Prize Pumpkin” in my anthology, Tales of Adventure & Discovery.
As the subject of poetry written by children and adults, such as that I teach in my workshops
Jack-o-Lanterns, both carved and …read more

What Do You Do After Halloween’s Over?

Oh all the excitement for Halloween! You know. That holiday when everybody gets ghoulish and scary and not so pretty unlike most of the year. But what do you do with them once Halloween is over? Surely you wouldn’t want them hanging around until Christmas. Oh just imagine what those pumpkins would look like by then!
Well, in case you don’t know what to do with …read more
