Hosted again this year by John O’Hurley and expert analyst David Frei, this year’s show will be a little different: Viewers will now get a chance to participate and vote in their own “Viewers Choice Best in Show!”

Once the remaining seven Best In Show competitors have been selected, the television audience will be able to vote online at dogshow.NBCSports.com or by texting the word “DOG” to 51515 on their cell phones. Viewers will also be encouraged to vote for their favorite group winner throughout the day.

The National Dog Show airs right after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC from noon to 2:00 p.m. in all time zones.

The television broadcast will also be available online after 2 p.m. EST on Hulu.com, a popular online video service that offers hit TV shows, movies and clips.

The ‘National Dog Show’ on Thanksgiving

For us, watching the National Dog Show is as much a part of our Thanksgiving holiday as watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The kids and we loving watching the 150+ different breeds all prettied up and strutting around the arena!

This year, celebrity beagle Uno, who won the Westminster Kennel Club Best in Show, will be making an appearance, and the Dogue de Bordeaux, the newest breed to compete in dog shows, will also be on site. The Dogue de Bordeaux is a large-sized mastiff which originated in France. They were used as guardians, hunters and fighters and though breeders, over time, have softened their temperament they are still a loyal, patient and fearless breed.

The two-hour Dog Show, presented by Purina, follows the Macy’s Parade on NBC and is watched by more than 20 million people. It begins at noon and will be hosted for the seventh time by Seinfeld star John O’Hurley who will be joined by expert analyst David Frei, the face and voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on USA Network and America’s foremost authority on the sport. Frei also serves as judge for the Afghan Hound breed in the competition.

Unlike traditional dog show coverage, the National Dog Show also offers family-oriented features on dogs and pet care, facilitated by the open format of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia event, one of only five remaining “benched” shows in which the dogs are on display for the visiting public.
