Can You Quilt or Collage Your Life?

As my husband and I celebrated our anniversary yesterday, I looked back on years of adventure and learning, of the various phases of life, of a daughter and grandchildren, careers and businesses, travels and ups and downs.
Should I plan something representing our life, either a quilt or mixed media collage?  The more I think of it, the more it seems a possibility.
What should I include?  Where will I research?

Quilting a City’s History

Quilting History
As the city of Boulder, CO prepares to celebrate it’s 150th anniversary, quilters there are making a pictorial fabric display to depict historical events during those years.  Five quilt panels will tell the story of Boulder, designed and made by 11 quilters.

As she showed me the pictures she’d taken of her quilts, I thought, “That’s it! I’ll have a quilt photo instead of the question mark.”
We selected the one she made as a school project for American Studies, a quilt based upon Civil War designs and history.
This may be the picture we use for other sites as well.
(I’ll have to post the photo at another time.  Granddaughter and I can’t figure out how to get it on this post!)

Where in the World is the World’s Largest Quilt?

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
You’ve probably seen large quilts, either in museums or at commemorative displays.  Have you ever seen one that’s 135 feet long and 85 feet wide?
At least you’ve probably never seen this one because only rarely has there been a space large enough for display.  So the 800-pound quilt is stored in a travel trailer.
This is the North Dakota quilt Leonna Tennyson convinced quilters around the state to create for the state’s centennial celebration in 1987.  Seven thousand quilters stitched together fabric to make the 53 counties of the state.  The last time it was displayed was for Antler, ND’s centennial in …read more
