Do you ever find yourself in the situation where you’re thinking about one topic and suddenly information crops up everywhere? When I started writing about photographing one’s quilting and fabric art projects, I began to find a number of articles and blogs with tips that quilters and other craftspeople can use.
At Stitch Witch, lunarawe has a good post with photos, It’s All About Presentation. Even though she talks about yarn and shows you how to take various photos involving this media, you can utilize it in your quilting and fabric art projects.

Photographing your quilting and fabric art is easy for some but a challenge for others, especially if you want a really nice photo to send in for a contest, juried show, or publication. Photos for your own use, your scrapbook, family memories, or just so you’ll have a record of what you made aren’t so critical…although it is nice to have ones that excel here, too.

Quilting with Joen Wolfrom

I look at nature and photography with different eyes and insight since watching the interview of Joen Wolfrom on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims.
Joen explained how she chose colors from her photos for her quilts and quilt hangings. These weren’t landscape replicas as I had expected. She chose the colors from her photos that inspired her and incorporated them into her work.
In fact, Joen said she matched her photos to her fabric stash and selected colors for her work that way. She also mentioned staying three hours in one place to get the photos that inspired her.

Digital Cameras Handy for Quilters

I see my daughter using her digital camera more and more in her quilting activities. No, she hasn’t developed a way quilt with it! But it’s so handy for taking photos of her work…for her own records, to post on her Meandering Treads blog, to post on other blogs, to send to groups for quilt and block exchanges, to take photos of scenery and natural objects the out-of-doors for quilting inspiration.
