One of the worst things that we encountered in AJ’s adoption was his H Pylori infection. Why? Because it physically damaged his digestive tract, probably for life. If you have ever had a parasitic infection or food poisoning I am sure it is not fun (I have, luckily, not had either before and actually tested negative for H Pylori as well…knock on all the wood in my home).
However, AJ apparently had H Pylori since near birth and the bacteria have caused him chronic Gastritis, an inflammatory response to the infection that actually damages the lining in the stomach. In his …read more

Not many doctors, especially pediatricians, will recognize this disorder. In fact, most will think you are a crackpot for asking about it or asking to test your child for it. They don’t recognize Pyroluria because its the disorder that PROVED that certain mental disorders are caused by a biochemical imbalance and therefore can only be cured with bio-chemicals, also known as vitamins and minerals.
Pyroluria is a genetic condition that results in an abnormality in hemoglobin synthesis. Huh?

Pyroluria has been linked to people diagnosed with ADHD, schizophrenia, autism, alcoholism, manic depression, and depression.

Why?
Because of its transparent symptoms and its vitamin and mineral therapy.
With all of AJ’s medical issues this was one of the ones we were quite concerned about. Fortunately, he tested negative despite all of his symptoms. But, if you remember from my last post, pyroluria can also be connected to high copper levels.

The latest news on Vitamin D is that kids need more. The previous recommendation (from 2003) from the American Academy of Pediatrics was 200 IU of vitamin D daily. Now they are saying that kids need 400 IU’s.
Dr. Frank Greer states that this could have life-long benefits.
Vitamin D helps build strong bones and prevents rickets (a common disease in developing countries and in institutionalized children like my son who was very borderline). Although rickets is uncommon in the US a recent study estimated that 40% of US infants and toddlers are deficient in Vitamin D.
The recommendation is for infants to …read more

For all his eccentricities as an actor, Johnny Depp is first and foremost, a dad. And a grateful one at that.
In March last year, Johnny Depp’s 8-year old daughter Lily-Rose contracted kidney failure as a result of E. coli poisoning. She contracted the bug while the family was staying at a rented mansion during filming of Sweeney Todd. Her condition worsened so much that it was feared she wouldn’t live.
“It was the most frightening thing we have ever been through. It was hell,” recalls Depp. “But the magic is that she pulled through beautifully. Great Ormond Street was terrific, a …read more
