We all have our ideals when it comes to choosing a partner. We come up with a list either by superficial standards or by principles. I guess it will be tested once we face that moment whether we are going to choose the person who matches all but one trait, physical or personality, which we think weighs a lot. We then face a dilemma that basically asks, will you settle for anything or anyone less than your ideal?

A friend of mine is going through such a dilemma right now. She has found a guy who treats her right and is offering the kind of relationship she has always wanted — yes, there’s a HUGE “but” in that statement.

The guy is a couple of inches shorter than she is.

Whoops! Before anyone goes judgmental on my friend over here, consider the situation, first.

Romantically, I’d say I agree with most people that it’s a bit unfair to take that against the guy. He is, after all, a good guy and I know he will love and treat my friend well. However, ideally, it would look a lot less awkward for my friend who’s gorgeously tall and pretty to be with a guy who looks and is shorter by comparison.

She’s not totally against the idea of getting involved with him since his good qualities seem to overshadow this physical, er, shortcoming (again! me and my puns! sorry.. gah.). She’s just in a bind cuz I know what kind of thoughts are rushing through her mind as she tries to make the decision (it’s a “been there, done that” kind of thing, well, sort of..).

Anyway, I left her with these thoughts, though. Mine. Heh.

“I don’t want to see you get cornered into going into a relationship with someone who’s not truly deserving of you but if he makes you happy and I mean TRULY happy, as in HAPPY, HAPPY.. then he has my vote.”

I always believe in never settling for anything less — well, at least, eversince my sister told me that piece of wisdom, that is. Heehee.

I know it really wouldn’t matter if I say the right things (or the wrong ones for that matter), she’s the one who has to make the decision. But, humour me on this, if she was your friend, what kind of advice would you give her?

For now, I’m keeping my distance. I will not meddle in her affairs. No one should. But I will be here to support whatever decision she makes!

Dating Dilemma: He Falls Short

An Engagement At Flickr

As much as you try to come up with reasons on why you should stop seeing this person, you’ll often end up seeing him or her anyway. I reckon it’s a major case of embarrassment. He or she just doesn’t fit the bill — close to the ideal [that's probably why you dated] but missing out on certain things, which are oftentimes only superficial. But, of course, that’s only my personal view on the matter.

I can’t really say that this happens a lot but there are people who actually date someone whom they’re ashamed of introducing to their family and/or friends. These people actually would find a way to limit the places they’d go to, somewhat making sure that the possibility of being seen by their respective public will be slim to none.

Admittedly, I dated someone for a couple of months but had no plans of committing to. I didn’t tell my close friends about him and never offered to introduce him. But before you go rushing into judgment, know that I’m now fully aware of the injustice that I’ve done. I’ve learned from the experience. It was one of the stupidest things I’ve done [so far] that’s why I don’t condone it now. It’s a cruel thing to do and simply unacceptable.

If you answered YES to the question I posted, can you tell me a reason or two on why you did it? Do you think it’s fair for the other person? Do you see yourself doing it again?

Dating in Secret

A woman who called 911 to get “the cutest cop I’ve seen” sent back to her home got a date all right — a court date.

The same sheriff’s deputy arrested her on charges of misuse of the emergency dispatch system.

Washington County Sheriff’s Sgt. David Thompson told KGW-TV of Portland it all started with a noise complaint called in last month by neighbors of Lorna Jeanne Dudash. The deputy sent to check on the complaint knocked on her door, then left.

Thompson said Dudash then called 911, asking that the “cutie pie” deputy return.

“He’s the cutest cop I’ve seen in a long time. I just want to know his name,” Dudash told the dispatcher. “Heck, it doesn’t come very often a good man comes to your doorstep.”

After listening to some more, followed by a bit of silence, the dispatcher asked again why Dudash needed the deputy to return.

“Honey, I’m just going to be honest with you, OK? I just thought he was cute. I’m 45 years old and I’d just like to meet him again, but I don’t know how to go about doing that without calling 911,” she said.

“I know this is absolutely not in any way, shape or form an emergency, but if you would give the officer my phone number and ask him to come back, would you mind?”

The deputy returned, verified that there was no emergency and arrested her for misusing the 911 system, an offense punishable by a fine of up to several thousand dollars and a year in jail.

Thompson said Thursday it was the first case he knew of in which someone called the emergency line for such a personal reason.

“That’s taking up valuable time from dispatchers who could be taking true emergency calls,” he said.

Bet that’s not exactly the being “taken back to his place” she had in mind.

What a dork!
