Did you catch the first episode of The Next Iron Chef Season 2 yesterday? If not, stop reading now, because I would hate to inadvertently spoil anything for you.
This season, the show, hosted by Alton Brown, will be judged by Anya Fernald, Donatella Arapai, and Jeffrey Steingarten (my least favorite Iron Chef judge). Fans of the Iron Chefshow will be familiar with Arapai and Steingarten, but I was unfamiliar with Frenald until last night. I liked her. She sounds knowledgeable, but she remains polite. I love reality tv, but I’m not a fan of rudeness and so many reality tv shows …read more
Jon & Kate Plus Divorce

While reading about some of what is going on with the very public Gosselin divorce – Jon is allegedly taking money, Kate is allegedly hiding money – I’m reminded of how quickly things can blow up and out of control when a marriage ends.
My divorce wasn’t of interest to anyone not immediately involved with it. My family was happy. My husband and I were not. His family? You’d have to ask them for their opinion – I no longer am in contact with any of them. Divorce is the most crazy-making thing I’ve ever survived.
This is my experience with divorce …read more
Truth Life – Dating Someone Older

I was watching an episode of MTV’s True Life on television this morning. The episode dealt with dating someone who is older and it focused on two couples. The first couple consists of a young girl, Amber, who is involved with an older man named Bobby. He is 47 and she is 26. The second couple is Lisa, 42, and Marcus, 25.
The problems that show up in these relationships deal with the older person saying, this is going to be the way things are going to be and if you can’t fit within this picture, then the realtionship will not work.

Ed Swiderski Is Not Catch

When my sister was visiting a couple of weeks ago, we watched the finale of the Bachelorette with Jillian Harris . I can remember thinking that Ed Swiderski, the man whom Jillian ultimately picked, was a great catch. Handsome, but not overly pretty (I wonder about the guys with the washboard abs – doesn’t that kind of body take some crazy upkeep?), he’s got a good job, he got along great with her family (Her dad was pretty darn smitten), and he made her laugh.
My sister made the comment to my mom that, “Ed is a ‘Matt.’” Matt is her husband. …read more
Real Life vs Reality TV

I was watching the show The Bachelorette the other day with my sister, Robin. She was at her home and I was at mine, almost 6 hours apart. I’m a pretty slow texter, but it was still fun to watch the show “together” this way.
We were texting, because my sister was having trouble talking. She was attacked by a neighbor’s dog last weekend and has a large bite below her lip. It hurts when she talks. My sister recently completed her student teaching and after years of working in a totally unrelated field, she is all set to be a …read more
Dionne Quints & J&K+8

I saw this documentary about the Dionne Quintuplets and thought there were some relevant similarities between them and one of Discovery’s reality shows, Jon & Kate plus 8.
According to The Free Dictionary:
The Dionne Sisters were born in 1934, and were the first quintuplets ever to survive their infancy. The odds were one in 57 million.
Two days after Annette Lillianne Marie, Cécile Marie Emilda, Emilie Marie Jeanne, Marie Reina Alma Dionne, and Yvonne Edouilda Marie were born in a Canadian village their father, Oliva, was approached by fair exhibitors.
Reluctantly, after speaking to his wife, Elzire, he signed a contract. Already the parents of five children, he made a deal …read more
