Dating in the Dark

My daughter, Sarah, and I have been watching Dating In the Dark for a few weeks. The show works like this; 3 men and 3 women meet and date in the dark. The audience is able, through a night vision camera – to watch the whole thing.
They begin with a group date and then progress through individual dates and getting-to-know-you clue-type “games.” For example they have a sketch artist draw the daters by verbal description (describing people they have not seen yet), or they see what their apartments look like when they are gone (Once a woman had ants. Oh, the …read more
Top Chef Masters Finale on Tonite

When I first saw that Bravo was doing a Top Chef Masters show, I thought, “who cares”? But guess what? My opinion changed instantly as soon as I saw the show. The premise of the show, for those of you who haven’t seen it, is that the top chefs throughout the country compete for a top prize, just like the more “amateur” chefs do on the regular show.
One thing I’ve really enjoyed about the show is seeing the chefs become so competitive. They are given these outrageous challenges, like cooking from a vending machine, …read more
Ruby Inspiring Others to Lose Weight

Have you seen the show Ruby? It’s about a woman who was once 700 pounds, and who is now half that size. She is publicly sharing her battle with weight. I normally hate shows like this, but there is something about Ruby Gettinger that is very sweet and charming. She draws you in, you know? Her show airs Sunday nights at 8pm on Style. She was on the Fox & Friends show talking about her show and how she got to be 700 pounds in the first place. I’m happy to see someone …read more
More To Love, Real-size Reality Dating Show

Every week, while watching So You Think You Can Dance with my pal, Leah, we see promos for a new dating-type reality show called More To Love. It looks like it’s set up in the same vein as the Bachelor/Bachelorette, which makes sense as all three shows are executive produced by Mike Fleiss.
The ladies in the promos are very pretty, perfectly coiffed and made up, talking about how much they want to find a true love story. I’m a sucker for that sort of thing, so I plan to watch the More To Love when it premieres on July …read more
Does Reality TV Families Split up Families?

With all the reality tv shows coming and going its made me wonder what type of pressure it has on those that have to be under the camera all the time. One example is Jon & Kate Plus 8, here’s a husband and a wife that were getting along just fine and had twins, then sextuplets and were invited to do a reality show.
The first two seasons were great, but I think the “reality” part of it started getting in the way. Cameras were constantly around, Kate is a control freak, Jon is too laid back, the couple would soon …read more
Jon and Kate’s Marriage

Do you watch that show, “Jon and Kate, Plus 8“? I have watched it off and on, never an entire episode, but my daughter, Sarah loves it.
I’ve read about Jon and Kate Gosselin. Especially about Kate, people really love-to-hate her, which I find oddly fascinating. She’s just a mom, trying to do her best, like any other mom. I don’t get the venom, the hate, the Kate-as-the-devil-ness of it all. People go on about how she speaks to Jon, talking down to him, or whatever, but that’s behavior that I’ve seen in many relationships. It’s unfortunate, but sometimes it’s the …read more

A couple of years ago, I started watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 – mostly because of the “mothers of multiples” connection. However, within two seasons I was over the show and ready to move on to something bigger – like Little People Big World.
When first watching the show, it was reassuring to me to see another mother struggling with day-to-day activities and just getting from the waking up part of the day to the lights out part of the night without losing her mind completely.
What I found toward the end of season two was that …read more
Lessons Derived From A Tragedy
I struggled with whether to post this glimpse of Scott Terrill’s life. I would hate for his family to think that I’m sensationalizing this whole ordeal and the pain that this family is going through, as a result. However, my heart feels the need to shed light on this subject as an example of what the feeling of hopelessness can lead to and the portrayal of people on reality television shows. Please take this post for what it truly is, a chance to educate people and bring hope out of an extremely tragic situation. My heart hurts for Scott and his …read more
