I remember growing up when someone would ask “what’s your favorite subject” kids would quickly reply recess. In a way recess really is a subject of its own, this is a place where children get to be who they want from day to day, deal with their own little drama, have crushes, etc. This is also very much like a sociology/P.E. class, with children running from one place to another, jogging, skipping, jumping rope, standing in lines, etc.ÂBelieve it or not, recess is actually good for children, but there are people that want to stop it.

Apparently an Elementary school in Attleboro, MA has banned playing tag at recess. Basic motivation is that there is a possibility some kid could get injured and then the school would be held accountable.

Recess is “a time when accidents can happen,” said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.
While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous.
