Cardboard Furniture That Holds 600 Pounds

cardboardesign has a new store in NYC, but they’re also offering up their deceivingly strong creations for sale online.

With chairs, vases and fun kid items like lemonade stands, it seems that cardboardesign wants to find a home with almost anyone. The ECOLOGIC Chairs pictured here are made from triple or double walls of fluted cardboard that can hold at least 600 pounds. They sell for under $100.
All furniture and decor items at cardboardesign are made from recycled cardboard. And when it’s time to redecorate, you can recycle your chairs! While assembly is required, there’s no need for glue or screws.

For those of you wondering, the couch yesterday was made of…

6,400 nickels.
Johnny Swing, sculpture, welder, and all around imaginative guy, welded the couch out of nickels after finding the penny medium tough to crack – although, he did eventually sculpt a penny chair as well. It took 300 hours and weighs 125 pounds.
He also has an intriguing, and strangely beautiful, baby food jar chair (96 jars were used):

The recycling aspects of art like Swing’s is incredible when you think about it. This is reuse at one of it’s finest hours if you ask me.
