Urinary Infections (UTI’s) result in approximately 8 to 10 million doctor visits a year. More common in women than men, UTI’s, are not only uncomfortable and can certainly put a damper on your personal life, but they may result in serious health problems if not properly diagnosed and treated. Once an infection is present, the most common symptoms include pain or burning on urination, pressure or pain in the lower abdomen, urinary urgency and frequency, difficulty urinating and passing small amounts of urination. If a UTI is suspected, a simple urine test that shows the presence of red blood cells and white blood cells confirms diagnosis. A urine culture can also determine the bacteria causing the infection and the appropriate antibiotic therapy, if necessary. More
