Favorite Herbs~ Rosemary

Rosemary is another one of my favorite kitchen garden herbs. I brought one of my Rosemary plants in last fall and overwintered it in the laundry room window. I didn’t think it would make it through the winter, but it survived. Now it’s going back outside for the summer.
I love Rosemary’s citrus, woodsy scent and flavor. I have a wonderful recipe for rosemary cookies I’m going to share with you soon. Rosemary’s also great in summer potpourris and soups.

Life’s a Beach

Every mother deserves some down time. Mine, this week, is at the beach with five of my old sorority sisters. I hate to admit how difficult it is for me to leave my family. But the minute the first friend arrives and we load up the car and head to the beach, I’m recovered.

Rosemary is Good for the Brain
A group of researchers report in The Journal of Neurochemistry and Nature Reviews Neuroscience that the herb rosemary contains carnosic acid, which can protect the brain from stroke and neurodegeneration due free radicals damages. These radicals are thought to contribute not only to stroke and neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s, but also to the ill effects of normal aging on the brain.
