Comebacks for Those Phrases You Hate to Hear

You remember the Sticks and Stones series, right? That’s when me and my pal Angelique from Breaking the Mirror put together some of the comments we hate to hear and asked you to comment on them, which many of you did. Thanks!
For those of you who were left speechless, or at least at a loss for a snappy comeback, go visit  DC at Lupus Pie. She’s compiled her own set of (least) favorite phrases and shared her best responses with you all in her post, “Ten Things Never to Say to Someone Dealing with Infertility.” I read them and for …read more

Sticks and Stones – Part VI

Raise your hand if you have had this said to you:

Ok, now raise your hand with a certain finger extended if you had it said to you by a nurse in your ob/gyn office as you were there for one of the many mandatory pokes and tests used to determine fertility.
Oh yes, ladies. This was actually said to me as I was draped in paper, waiting to hear even more sh*tty news from my beautiful gynecologist. Not sure if the nurse thought she was making conversation, commiserating (?), what. What she did was make me feel even lower than I …read more

Sticks and Stones – Part V

The conversation that started from this post made me think now would be a good time for another video in the Sticks and Stones Series. You remember, the little experiment that Angelique from Breaking the Mirror (who, by the way, is the lovely actor in this clip) and I put together to see how you reacted to some of our (least) favorite moments in conversations.
I haven’t come across this one yet, but my blogger friend WifeThereof has. Click here to see how she reacted to it. But first, watch the video below and let me know how you would have …read more

Sticks and Stones – Part IV

Many thanks to the talented Angelique from Breaking the Mirror for the latest installment in our Sticks and Stones series, where we share with you some of our (least) favorite comments and let you react. Here’s the full explanation of our little experiment and here’s our next doozy:

If I took a poll of the blogosphere, I am going to guess that this is the comment (or ones similar) that pushes people trying to conceive to the edge of sanity. It is also one of the most commonly heard. I could list here all of the people that have said it …read more

Sticks and Stones – Part III

This comment came to us when Michael and I were having a drink with a very good friend of ours. It was in a loud, celebratory setting – not the kind of place that’s usually conducive or appropriate for soul-baring or hand wringing, but it struck us both hard enough that we felt compelled to respond. I was so proud of my husband for not shying away from this opportunity and for having my back. D*mn, I love that man.
Thanks again to Angelique from Breaking the Mirror, who is the actor in this clip:

My response: “Actually, I think you have …read more

Sticks and Stones – Part II

Coming up next, another snarky comment delivered to you by Angelique from Breaking the Mirror (Don’t worry. I asked her to). Sit back. Turn up your volume and let yourself react.

What’s happening here?
Here’s the full explanation.
Over the next few days both here on Fertility Notes and over at Breaking the Mirror, you’ll see videos of some of our (least) favorite words and have your chance to respond like you always wanted to. Leave us some comments saying what you would say if someone said those things to you. Take your time. Get it all out. And don’t worry, we won’t …read more
