Caring for a parent or spouse stricken with Alzheimer’s, a stroke, or some other medical condition presents a challenge for family members. Sometimes this is solved agreeably with everyone contributing their share. In other cases, there is great deal of controversy, often with one family member providing most of the care.

Safe Return Programs

Check with the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) to see what is in place concerning a “safe return program” in your area.
Wandering away from home by Alzheimer’s patients is a big problem. They can so easily slip out of the house even when you think you are very diligent. Depending on weather conditions and degree of safety of the area, wandering away from home can be fatal to many.
My aunt often slipped away from my mom when they were living together. This necessitated our making other arrangements for Auntie because Mother was developing Alzheimer’s, too.
