In most movies set several years back, you’ll see scenes of home birth with a midwife standing by with boiled water. Sometimes the birth goes well, and sometimes not. That’s fiction though.
What happens when women choose home birth in real life? Is it as safe as hospital birth?
According to a recent study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, risk of infant death after a planned home birth with a registered midwife is the same as a planned hospital birth.
