Today, my daughter and I tried the Tin Roof Bakery and Cafe, located in downtown Chico, CA. In addition to offering a selection of artisan-style breads, they serve coffee, pastries, and sandwiches.
Bailey and I ordered half sandwiches and we split a Ginger cookie. I loved everything about the place. It was easy to park close, they were fast and friendly, and best of all, the food was fantastic. I can’t wait to take my friends over there to check it out.
Here’s what Bay had to say about her sandwich, “It was a ham sandwich, with a white cheese (I think …read more
Spiffing Up the Lunchbox Sandwich

At the beginning of every new school year, I have good intentions. I think of all the fun things I can do in my kids’ lunchboxes to keep them from getting boring, but the morning rush always sets in and making sure they even have a lunch to take with them in the first place becomes the top priority!
We usually end up alternating between peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and bologna and cheese sandwiches. Though the kids like them and I know they’re better for them the pre-packaged processed stuff the schools serve now (when did that start?), I do …read more
Tuna Salad W/ Wasabi Mayonnaise & Capers

I usually use my Wasabi Mayonnaise for sushi. It is sooooo much better than the regular wasabi that sushi is typically served with. Once in a while I try to incorporate it as an ingredient to some dishes. But only as a touch because eve if it’s mayonnaise based, it still has the kick of wasabi, trust me.
I made a basic tuna salad for lunch the other day but I added a couple of twists thanks to wasabi mayonnaise and capers.
INGREDIENTS:
3 cans of tuna, drained
2 spoonfuls of mayonnaise
1 tsp of Wasabi mayonnaise
a handful of capers
salt and pepper …read more
Please Help With My Kid’s Lunch Dilemma

I admit I’m not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. That said, I need some help here from you mothers who have a clue about some of this school-age kid stuff. What do I do about lunchboxes and lunches? Here’s the deal, Truman is buying his lunch at school. I paid enough into the plan that he should be set for most, if not all, of the first semester. The school apparently serves a decent lunch and they got rid of the fryer, so I felt good about the food he was offered. What I didn’t bank on was other …read more

Do You Cut Your Sandwiches Into Quarters?
It is funny how kids can be real picky about how they want things. Take for example my oldest daughter. I make cold lunch for her and my son each morning for school. It is usually the infamous peanut butter and jelly sandwich or tuna. Lately my daughter insists I cut the sandwich into 4 parts and not just 2. She tells me it fits better in her mouth and it actually makes the sandwich taste better. My son, on the other hand, doesn’t even want the sandwich cut at all. He prefers to eat it like daddy eats it. …read more
