Don’t Get Camera Crazy

When you are planning a Labor Day scrapbooking layout before you take your photos, you can make sure you get the shots you want – Dad at the grill wearing Mom’s apron, Uncle Al juggling the condiment jars like he does every year while everyone looks on in horror, kids chowing down on corn on the cob. However, you may be so focused on filling holes in your layout that you forget what memory books are about – recording your wonderful memories. So, don’t forget to put down the camera part of the time so you can add to everyone else’s memories, too.

Choose Autumn Colors

I usually pick jewel tone colors that remind me of fall or the shades of leaves on Autumn trees as my Labor Day color scheme. However, if I was making a page about career talks that guests made at school, I’d choose uniform colors for my pages.

Add Fun Embellishments

There are a lot of ways to embellish pages about Labor Day:

• Add a name badge shaped piece of cardstock to a layout about a police officer or other service worker in the family. You can journal on it, use it as the background for your title, or cut a photo to fit.
• Attach leaf shaped buttons to the page.
• Laminate real leaves and use them as decorative elements.
• Use picnic or barbeque related stickers on the page.

Planning a Labor Day Scrapbooking Layout

The pages come out that much more personalized, and often provide an angel or perspective that I don’t have. The photos are larger as well, and work nicely as part of the background.

If you have some of these calendars (or ones of special places you’ve visited like Paris or London or whatever favorite spot) consider using these to spruce up your scrapbook pages.

Uses for City Calendars

This Monday’s Spotlight is on an innovative printing service, Moo.

Moo is a printing company. What’s so great about them is that you can print the images you’ve uploaded on any photo sites like Flickr, Facebook, etc or from your own computer.

I found out about Moo through a friend of mine and since then, my Husband and I have used their printing service for the Hubby’s business cards. The service is fast, friendly and efficient. They package your order really well too!

What I like about Moo products is that you can personalize your cards. You can choose which image goes where, how it’s cropped. It’s so much easier to have control on what you want to order rather than relaying to an over-the-counter assistant. Love it!

Moo started with miniCards but has since expanded their product offerings to include double-sided business cards, post cards, stickers, greeting cards and note cards.

Monday Spotlight: Moo’s Printing Service

Here’s a fun way to glam up your scrapbook layout by using stickles!

Stickles: What is it?

Stickles is basically a glitter glue available in a huge range of fabulous colours that is manufactured by Ranger Industries who state that you can “easily write, dot, dash, draw and embellish on paper and rubber stamping projects, candles, memory album covers and more!” The fine point nozzle makes it simple to apply and control where your Stickles will go. If you are interested in adding a little bling to your project, this is a fantastic product.

Turning your Scrapbook Layouts into Invitations and Announcements

Supplies
Diane Clothes Pin #16321

Mounting tape
Narrow black ribbon
Black acrylic paint
Silver pen
Exacto knife

Instructions
1. Paint a Diane Clothes Pin with black acrylic and let dry.
2. Cover Lisa Character letters spelling the word “love” with Pink Argyle Paper, using both sides of the paper. Trim the edges of the letters with an exacto knife.
3. Edge the letters with a silver pen.
4. Using Endearments Swatch Book Impress-Ons, apply text to the letters and white borders onto the clothespin, as shown.
5. Wrap a length of narrow black ribbon around each letter and tie into knots.
6. Mount the letters to the clothespin with mounting tape.

Instructions
1. Cut a panel, slightly smaller, than a Tom Checkbook from Heart Text Paper. Remove calendar from checkbook cover.
2. Embellish the Heart Text Paper panel with Love Epoxy and Stencil Alphabet Gold Foil Stickers, as shown.
3. Slip the Heart Text panel and the calendar into the Tom Checkbook’s cover.
4. Wrap a length of pink gingham ribbon around the center of the checkbook and knot the ends. Tie a short length around the ribbon and knot the ends. Trim the ends of the ribbons diagonally with scissors.
5. Attach a blue heart from Love Chipboard to the cover of the checkbook.
