Those who have always wanted to use Photoshop but couldn’t afford the software, here’s your chance to use the new Photoshop line for free. There’s a catch of course but it ain’t that hard. All you have to do is provide feedback on the functionality of the new programme.

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe® Photoshop® Express public beta, a free Rich Internet Application (RIA) available to anyone who wants to store, sort and show off digital photos with eye-catching effects. During the public beta period, Adobe will solicit Photoshop Express user feedback on product features and functionality, which will continue to evolve over time. As the newest addition to the Photoshop family line, Photoshop Express has taken much of Adobe’s best image editing technology and made it simple and accessible to a new online audience. Photoshop Express allows users to store up to 2 gigabytes of images online for free, make edits to their photos, and share them online in creative ways, including downloading and uploading photos from popular social networking sites like Facebook.

“Photoshop is trusted technology that has changed the visual landscape of our world. Now, Photoshop Express allows anyone who snaps a digital photo to easily achieve the high-impact results for which Adobe is known,” said Doug Mack, vice president of Consumer and Hosted Solutions at Adobe. “Photoshop Express is a convenient, single destination where you can store, edit and share photos whether you’re at home, school or on the road.”

Adobe Photoshop Express beta is available now for free via any Web browser at http://www.photoshop.com/express (In its early phases, Photoshop Express is available to US residents-only in English. Users may experience slow performance if accessed outside of the US. Future plans include availability in other languages and countries.)

But I digress, just good to know that Pink Paislee recognised the power of social networking!

Taking an innovative approach to the idea of brand awareness and consumer interaction, Pink Paislee, LLC is the first scrapbook manufacturer to launch a networking community that focuses on everything creative. Quickly gaining the reputation as “The Facebook Of Scrapbooking” with its members, the community is a hub of activity for scrapbook artists, retailers, and friends of Pink Paislee.

“We wanted to give our fans a place to interact with one another while sharing their Pink Paislee projects,” explains Rebecca Cross, owner of Pink Paislee. “We knew instantly that a normal message board combined with a photo gallery wouldn’t work for our needs. With the Live Pink network our members can share videos, project photos, link up with friends, start discussions, take our Pink Polls, win prizes and more. With over 400+ members joining in just 48 hours I think we made the right decision to launch this next generation style of community,” said Cross.

Live Pink also features members weekly through a “Pretty In Pink” spotlight and has plans to hand out “Pink Slips” to guest artists monthly.

The 2007 contest rules explicitly stated that all photos in the entry had to have been taken by the entrant. But when the book hit newstands recently, at least one layout by winner Kristina Contes was accompanied by a photo credit to past Hall of Famer Nisa Fiin. Outraged entrants have besieged online message boards, including the one on CK’s own site, asking why Contes was made a winner of the contest instead of disqualified.

The Rolls Royce of Crafters has just upped the notch of this wonderful hobby, scrapbooking. Who decided she likes scrapbooking? It’s Martha Stewart that is! I admire this woman despite the conviction but hey, no one’s perfect!

The Economist reports

MARTHA STEWART is a woman with many hobbies. She cooks, gardens and makes jam. And now it seems she has decided to take up scrapbooking. This month Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia launched a line of Martha-branded supplies, bringing a dash of glamour to the world of paper crafts.

But although scrapbooking may be popular, it has never been fashionable. The prevailing aesthetic is saccharine. It includes glitter, polka dots and lots of pink. Martha Stewart Crafts brings a slightly more sophisticated style to scrapbooking, with albums in tasteful shades such as walnut and persimmon. The line is not entirely humourless, with stickers of a hula-hooping watermelon and a happy orange waving a pennant.

Perhaps Ms Stewart’s arrival on the scene will earn scrapbooking a little more respect. Other crafts, after all, are taken seriously. The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York featured an exhibit of quilts a few years ago. Knitters click away on the subway. Sublime Stitching, based in Austin, Texas, sells embroidery patterns featuring pirates and pieces of sushi. True, a preoccupation with the relative merits of various types of decorative sticky tape is not for everyone. But a well made scrapbook is more impressive than yet another of those itchy scarves.

I couldn’t agree more!

Can you believe that? Is this true? Here in New Zealand, almost every bloke I know is a keen or aspiring golfer.
However, according to a Craft and Hobby Association research,
Modern scrapbooking began in the early 1980s when the first scrapbooking store opened in Utah. But the hobby really exploded about 10 years ago, turning into a $2.5 billion annual industry.
In fact, the pastime is now more popular than golf. That’s right. Golf.
One in three households has a scrapbooker, compared with one in four households with a golfer.
Wow, better let the boss know….haha!

I may not do any digital scrapbooking but I do have a lot of valuable digital photos, emails, downloaded songs and files in my computer that if my machine ever dies on me, I’d go mad.

I found this media release from Broderbund regarding their new product, The Print Shop.

The Print Shop® 22 product line, can be the first print program users to get a free 15-day trial subscription to Carbonite, the online backup service that backs up your whole computer simply and automatically. The Print Shop22 customers can go to www.carbonite.com/broderbund to sign up for a free 15-day trial of Carbonite’s unlimited (storage) backup service.

After the trial ends, users can renew their backup subscription for only $49.95 per year or save $10.00 by purchasing a two-year subscription for only $89.95. The Print Shop customers can protect and save irreplaceable data including photos, music, documents, email, and The Print Shop projects with this new automatic and continual PC backup service from Carbonite.

You have to be a Print Shop customer though and have to sign up with Carbonite. Pretty tedious process but may well worth be the hassle!
