I like dinner and serveware that has a sort of solid and rustic look and feel. My all-time favorite set of plates came from Portugal – gorgeous, rich colors, shiny glaze. I have very pieces left, but that’s because I didn’t put that beautiful stuff up on a shelf. My family enjoyed it each and every day. When I shop for something new, it’s those plates, that look, that I’m trying to recreate.

I love this new set of serveware from Williams-Sonoma. It’s covered with pictures of artichokes, eggplant, tomatoes, and herbs. I like the generous size and that the dishes are safe for both microwave and dishwasher.

At France’s celebrated open-air markets (marchés), farmers take pride in their colorful displays of fresh seasonal produce. Inspired by this Gallic tradition, we commissioned Parisian painter Marc Lacaze to design serveware that’s ideal for vegetable-inspired fare from pastas to salads to stews. Made in Portugal, the earthenware pieces have hand-painted border filets.

Etsy Finds : Elegant Servewares

I haven’t been to yard sales in a while so I haven’t found any unique serving platters lately. However, Etsy has a lot of them. I found these really elegant and unique platters last night.

Round Platter with Grapes, Vines and Leaves, $150. The grapes, leaves, and vines were hand sculpted.

Round Platter with Gardenias, $185. This features 3 beautiful gardenias and leaves, hand sculpted as well.

Just imagine the oohs and ahhhhs from your guests when they see these serving platter and bowl. They are understandably expensive of course.

When I was a kid, we lived in Huntington Beach, California. Later, when I was in high school, I spent a short time in Encinitas, where I could see the coast from school (when I’d cut class and hang out on the lawn – not a very motivated student at that time). I love the beach and these days, it’s Pismo that I get to visit, this time with my sister and her family. In my home, I’ve got bowls of shells in almost every room.

This serveware from William-Sonoma is perfect for beach lovers like me. It includes a platter, Dipping Bowls, and Appetizer Plates. Each is white with a gorgeous shell or two in the center. They run from $39-$65.

Kohl’s is one again having a great sale. I love Kohl’s. I can walk out my door and reach the closest one on foot within 5 minutes. That can be dangerous.
