Now that fall is just around the corner, I’m starting to get a lot of requests for the pattern again – especially in children’s sizes.  You can certainly grade the pattern down to a kid’s size, but not everyone wants to get out their rulers before they can start sewing.

McCalls has come out with a pattern to make your own fleece blanket with sleeves.

The pattern is available in three different sizes, and while I don’t think the smallest size will fit a toddler or small child, at 60 inches (5 feet long) it’s definitely smaller than an adult size.  The pattern also has a pocket, handy for tucking all kinds of things into

Whether you call it a “Snuggie” a “Slanket“, “Snuglet” or just that big fleece blanket with sleeves, they’re popular, and at this time of year – it’s no wonder!  You can curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and your needlework, stay warm and keep your arms free all at the same time.

Welmoed’s Sewing Room has created a PDF how-to for sewing your own fleece blanket from 3 yards of polar fleece.  I’ve seen fleece on sale for as low as $5, so it’s a lot more economical to sew your own when you can find the fabric on sale
