Mother’s Day always reminds me of previous generations of women who have gone before me.
I love looking through my vintage lace, embroidery and textiles and imagining generations of hands creating lovely work for themselves and for their families. Little girls learned how to sew, embroidery, crochet, knit, weave and more from their mother’s, aunts, grandmothers and family friends.
I can’t think of a better way to acknowledge the women of previous generations, than to teach the next generation of kids how to create!

Teaching your child to sew can be a wonderful way to share your interests – and besides, everyone should know how to mend their own clothes!
Of course, teaching your child to sew can also be a frustrating experience… for both of you. I’ve taught kids from 5 years and up how to sew, and have a few suggestions that may make things a little easier and a whole lot more fun!
