Overlooked Sexually Transmitted Infection

You don’t tend to hear much about chlamydia, yet it’s one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections (STI).
It’s caused by a bacteria, Chlamydia trachomatis, and is spread through sexual contact, including oral sex. Around 10 million Americans are exposed to chlamydia each year, but only around 20% are diagnosed and treated. Women or men infected with chlamydia may not exhibit any symptoms. Yet, some symptoms do exist. It may take one to four weeks after exposure for symptoms to appear.
According to womenshealth.gov, symptoms of chlamydia in women may include:
Abnormal vaginal discharge
Abdominal pain (lower)
Pain during intercourse
Burning when urinating
Bleeding between periods
