Entropion: Painful Eyelid Problem in Dogs

Some dog breeds are predisposed to a very uncomfortable eyelid problem. I cringe to think of how it must feel, and hope I never know as humans can develop the condition too.
Entropion occurs when an animal’s eyelid rolls inward. Eyelashes can rub against the cornea — ouch! Both the upper and lower eyelids may be affected. Entropion may strike both eyes or just one. It can occur due to genetics before the dog turns one or as a secondary condition resulting from problems like infections or scarring.

What Was It? A Shar Pei!

There were several correct guesses for this week’s What Is it? It was a Shar Pei!
Shar Peis are probably best down for their big wrinkly coats and blue-black tongues (which actually lead some people to believe they’re a distant relation to Chow Chows, who also have the dark tongues).

Oxygen Treatments Go To the Dogs

First off, that poor dog looks totally perplexed.
Second, I can’t imagine why oxygen treatments would ever be necessary for a dog, but then I feel the same way about “oxygen bars” for humans so what do I know?
The contraption above comes to us from Japan and supposedly… helps beat wrinkles? How any dog other than a Shar Pei would benefit from this I’m not sure. Pricing on the at-home gadget is currently not known though they’re supposedly available at pet spas.
