Kevin asks:
“I am a big fan of 1940s fashion. Do you have any ideas of where to find patterns, images, etc.?”

I’ve posted a few different sources for vintage patterns including:

The Vintage Pattern Lending Library.
 “Mom’s Patterns“.
A Dress A Day celebrates all things vintage with photos, patterns and even fabric sources.

Don’t forget that Vogue has a pretty good collection of vintage patterns - and it’s worthwhile checking through their discontinued patterns as well.

I’ve posted a few different sources for vintage patterns including:

The Vintage Pattern Lending Library.

 “Mom’s Patterns“.

Barbara asks:

“Would love to know the name of suppliers of shisha mirrors or very large sequins. Can anyone help?“

I know for a fact that my local Michael’s Arts & Craft store carries them (in the miniatures section I think), but they’re not labeled as “shisha mirrors”. It’s worthwhile going into the store and doing a thorough search for yourself – I wouldn’t expect many salespeople to know what they are though

Here are three different online sources for shisha mirrors in the USA:

Treadle Art carries a selection of shisha mirrors online.

Vintage Vogue carries shisha mirrors as well as metallic sadi thread.

Gitta’s also carries sadi thread, shisha mirrors as well as instructional books.

Hope this helps!

A Joyful Abode has an easy to follow tutorial on how to embroider shisha mirrors. What are shisha mirrors you ask? They are little mirrors that are used to embellish clothing, textiles and home accessories – most commonly found in east Indian textiles. Go check it out!
