A traditional baby shower has a baby centered theme and if you are adopting a child who is older then simply ask the host to plan an adoption shower.
My personal opinion is that a baby shower/adoption shower should be held before the child joins the family because 1) you NEVER know how the child will adapt to the family once home and 2) don’t you need those supplies when baby comes home?
