I don’t care what they try telling you, mom and dad are soft spots for kids. No matter what they don’t want to see mom and dad vulnerable, hurt or sick, when they do it frightens them. have been sick for over a week and not just the common flu bug, this is one of those where mom doesn’t ever leave the room and she’s weak with a fever that just won’t drop.
My little girl begged me, “Mom, please don’t die and get better really soon. I miss you.” My other daughter echoed the sentiment especially when she heard the …read more

Three times in the past six days (that includes the weekend) the school nurse at my son’s elementary school has called me, and three times I’ve had to pick up my little boy from school. He’s not sick. If anything, he was a little stuffy. The first two check-outs were due to him spitting up mucus – a ritual he does every time he cries heartily or wakes up stuffy from a cold or allergies. The last time was from the scabby crust that formed on the end of his nose – just in time for school picture day. The …read more

Benjamin Franklin once wrote to the French physician Jacques Barbeu-Dubourg, “I rise early almost every morning and sit in my chamber, without any clothes whatever, half an hour or an hour, according to season, either reading or writing.” Why? Franklin believed that daily baths of fresh air were good for one’s health. He must have known what he was doing because the old guy lived to the ripe old age of 84.
I’m calling it sage advice. Truman is still recovering from step throat and he has a bad case of cabin fever. He just left his cocoon of blankets and …read more

Interacting with other kids can not only help them laugh and feel “more normal,” but it can also speed up their recovery time. A report from CNN says it can also transport home bound kids to the classroom in some cases. All they have to do is log on, and they can see and hear their regular class, their fellow students, and the teacher.
I think this is a great way for kids to stay connected. …read more

The last two weeks we’ve been working on one thing at home…getting better. How many of you all have to deal with the old saying, “When one gets sick, they all get sick”? I don’t know about you, but for my family this is very true. Course we are more digitized, which makes one go a bit batty when they begin looking up all the symptoms. As we all know, some symptoms show up in all types of diseases and sicknesses.
First, Little A (he just turned 2) came down with pink eye, before that though they all had something else. Pink eye seems to be …read more
Is my kid too sick to send to school?

This week is one of those insanely busy weeks. I have just about every second scheduled on my to-do list. Truman goes to preschool on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so I was already looking forward to a productive day Wednesday. Truman had slept in a bit in the morning – no surprise as we had friends over the night before and he got to bed late. He woke up happy and all was right in the world until, just minutes before we were to leave the house, he folded over and started wailing that his head hurt and his belly …read more
