In the study, women without sexual partners spent longer looking at photos of men, showing a greater interest in the photos than women with partners.
However, the same study found that no such difference occurred with men. Sex partner or not, men spent relatively the same amount of time looking at photos of the opposite sex.

Neuroscientists found that a woman’s partner status influences her interest in the opposite sex. Really?

In the study, women without sexual partners spent longer looking at photos of men, showing a greater interest in the photos than women with partners.

However, the same study found that no such difference occurred with men. Sex partner or not, men spent relatively the same amount of time looking at photos of the opposite sex.

Subjects included 59 men and 56 women, ages 17 to 26. They were instructed to quickly give their “gut” reaction to 510 photos of opposite-sex faces. They rated the faces for realism, masculinity/femininity, attractiveness or affect.

Believe it or not, this is the first study to examine whether having a current sexual partner influences interest in the opposite sex. It was led by neuroscientist Heather Rupp and published in the March issue of Human Nature.

Twenty percent of women ages 40 to 44 have no children, double the level of 30 years ago, the report said; and women in that age bracket who do have children have fewer than ever — an average of 1.9 children, compared with the mean average of 3.1 children in 1976. – NYTimes.com

It’s being suggested that career choices and ethnicity are the two main reasons for this drop in motherhood. Personally, my reason is because I haven’t found someone to make babies with yet. Sure, I could go out there and “get a baby” but I don’t want that and I think that women (girls) who do that are just… ew. I’d rather at least go to a clinic somewhere and get a donor. Someone WILLING to anonymously father a child with a stranger. I mean, seriously.

What’s my “ideal”? Getting married to a man who won’t ever cheat on me or abuse me, have a baby or two, and live happily ever after, where even at 70 years of age, I cook his dinner every night and he holds my hand as he walks my arthritic butt to the car. Yep, I want the damn fairy tale. Will I get it? I can only hope. But if I don’t see it happening within the next couple years, yes, I’m going out to get me a baby.

Now, I’m an entrepreneur, but I spent my time in college and all that. I’m also 2nd/3rd generation born American. So I don’t fit into their “types” in this article. My situation is simply that I haven’t found “that guy”. It’s not that I’ve made the personal choice to wait, or to not have children at all. It’s that I can’t find the guy who I think would be a great husband and father, who feels that I’d be a great wife and mother, who wants to be MY husband and my kids’ father.

It’s articles like this that annoy me. I know that in this situation, I’m the “margin for error” but damn, when is someone going to write an article about why women like me are in our situations? When is someone going to do a study that figures out how many marriages that go through a cheating spouse that a) end in divorce or b) get through it? I can’t possibly be the only woman in the world who fears that happening to me, and I can’t be the only woman in the world who has never and would never cheat on a mate. Where are those studies, that say that the reason a lot of these women have chosen their careers over having families is because they too can’t find a quality guy who wants the same things in life that they do, so instead they focus on their careers because that’s the only thing they can care for and nurture without requiring a spouse?

Why do you guys think that more women than ever are not having children? What do you think is going to happen to the US population in 40 or 50 years because of this downward trend? And is it “okay” or is it “selfish” for a woman to make the conscious choice, with or without a spouse, to not have children?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been re-thinking certain theories I’ve come up with in the entire duration of my dating life. I admit that it’s only been a decade since I started to seriously think about dating and relationships. Realising that it has been actually 10 years or so that I’ve been in the whole dating scene has made me come up to one conclusion. I’ve been holding onto little girl notions of what love is all about.

“I still often see myself as the same little girl who followed her dad around like it’s the only and most important thing in the world and nothing else mattered.” — Sasha Manuel, SashaManuel.com

When I wrote that in the about page of my new photo journal, I didn’t realise it sums up how I’ve viewed and acted in relationships. Weird, huh? But it does feel good to let it out. This sort of certainty. I mean, losing my dad has left me with fears or perhaps the hidden fears finally resurfaced and it felt like life has thrown me a curve ball. Something that I wasn’t prepared for. Then again, it’s also unexpected that I find some sort of sense in the event.

Knowing that I’m already a grown woman but very much still like a little girl. I still treasure those moments. Accepting that I’m capable of feeling that way towards a man that I love. I’m built that way for a reason and all I need is a balance. I can still be someone with little girl notions but now with grown woman strength.

What about you ladies? What’s the earliest memories of yourself can you associate yourselves with in how you go about relationships? Do you still see yourself as that same little girl even when the reflection your seeing in the mirror is of a grown woman?

Are there qualities in a woman that can spell out “just for dating” or “ready for marriage”?

Personally, I’ve heard guy friends tell me that I’m not the sort that guys should fool around with. I’m the marriage sort, someone that should be taken seriously. Before proceeding to lambaste my foolishness and gullible personality, that is. They’re rough so I have to be tough. Pah.

Anyway, this caused me to wonder if there is such a classification. I’m especially curious to find out what guys think about this theory. Thoughts?

Girls are like
apples on trees. The best
ones are at the top of the tree.
The boys don’t want to reach for
the good ones because they are afraid
of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they
just get the rotten apples from the ground
that aren’t as good, but easy. So the apples

They just have to wait for the right

Do you think more women are flocking to niche dating sites or are they hanging out on the mainstream sites?

I have to admit, having been involved in the online dating scene for a number of years, I’m not overly surprised more women are placing ads on niche dating sites.
It’s my own personal belief that women are more “conscious” about what makes them just different enough to not feel comfortable being blended into a mass populations of the more popular general dating sites.

Do you prefer the niche dating sites over the larger more populated ones? Or are you more likely to utilize both – which isn’t such a bad idea when you think about it.

Being a part of a successful marriage has a number of challenges, I won’t lie! But I don’t think I’d want to become a part of the aforementioned statistics should anything happen to my husband.

If you’re a single woman and reading this, would you mind chiming in and letting us know why you’re single? By choice, haven’t found the right man, not looking at all? What?
