Since there is often much talk about this topic – Alcoholics Anonymous has provided a pamphlet filled with valuable information about medications and other drugs.
This is the opening disclaimer;
Alcoholics Anonymous is a program for alcoholics who seek freedom from alcohol. It is not a program against drugs. However, some A.A. members have misused drugs, often as a substitute for alcohol, in such a manner as to become a threat to the achievement and maintenance of sobriety. Mary Christine got a nasty, stupid, “anonymous” comment the other day. Apparently she was waaaaay too real for someone else’s taste. Today MC responded with a wonderful post which basically says: I’m real, I feel and I’m not perfect. So anonymous – get over yourself!
MC, you’ve motivated me. There is a topic for which I have a “purple” passion and, no coincidences, was reminded of it distinctly just yesterday.

I’m not looking to be thought of as a purist because that would feel too much like perfectionism, to me. Yet I feel I want to be representative of the principle, not idealistically but realistically, of singleness of purpose in recovery. The fact that AA (and its “sister” 12 Step programs) has staunchly stuck to a singleness of purpose no doubt has continued to save innumerable lives and be largely responsible for bringing back many from a hopeless state of body and mind.
