Halloween Fun For Singles

Halloween is my favorite holiday, which makes perfect sense as I love both dressing up and chocolate equally. It’s also the perfect opportunity to put on something fun, sexy, or scary (your pick!) and hit the town. Buffy Summers explained it best when she told Willow that Halloween was “come as you aren’t day.”  It’s the one day year when you are expected to get a bit wild. (Just a bit).
I did some research and here are some Halloween events for singles around the U.S.  I hope you find something fun near you.

8MinuteDating – Speed Dating Service

Speed dating. Have you ever tried it? I haven’t, but I’ve always been curious about it. There’s a company called 8MinuteDating that offers speed dating events in 70 cities across the US.
The way it works is this – 1 night, 8 dates that last 8 minutes a piece.  You sit down, you chat for the allotted time, then you move to the next person. You do this 8 times. If both parties express an interest in each other, then 8MinuteDating provides contact information. They guarantee that you will meet someone that you’d like to date again or your next event …read more

How Not to Pick Up a Girl

My best friend tweeted today, telling me about an interesting experience she had on a road trip.
Her friend and her were driving along a northeast highway when a trucker honked at them from the next lane.
A transcript of her tweets. “Some man just drove past our car blowing kisses. Then he drove past with a sign, show me your boobs. Not even kidding.”
“We gave him the finger. He deserved it!”
Now, seriously – if there are any men reading this, help me out – why would you do this? Why do construction workers whistle? Do any of you think that acting …read more

Go Green Dating This Earth Day

If you are earth-loving, this is a pretty big day for you – how awesome would it be if it was also the day you found your equally minded other half?
I am a true believer in opposites attracting. That said, sometimes common ideals work out for the best.
That’s why I found it amusing (but awesome) timing when I read today about PlanetEarthSingles.com.
I mean, there’s tons of niche sites out there, but this is one especially designed for people who are…well…tree-huggers. (I am sorry, couldn’t resist.) So, whether you are all about carbon footprints or a raw foodist, you’ll find the …read more

The Thrill of the Hunt

Right now, I’m on a bit of a girlfriends getaway (under the guise of being on a “business trip”) at the absolutely fabulous Water Club (a signature hotel by the Borgata) in Atlantic City.
Last night, all of us lovely ladies went to Gypsy Bar (in the Borgata) for tequila tasting, and after that, clubbing at the very exclusive mur.mur – while we were there, a super mysterious tendency unveiled itself.
One of us, married for fifteen years, was absolutely FLOODED with male attention. Another, in a serious relationship, was too receiving declarations of love.
Us single girls? Interestingly enough, we were the …read more

Blindfolded Speed Dating – Good or Bad Idea?

I read an article tonight that talked about Dr. Marco van Gelderen, a senior lecturer in the Department of Management and International Business, at Albany, who has done extensive research into the subject of dating as a service industry.
Dr. van Gelderen says the dating service industry has grown in recent years as a result of greater demand and rapidly evolving technology including the internet. But too many potential clients remain stuck in “singledom” because of a lack of industry awareness of their needs as well as ambivalence about using dating services.
“The dating industry has a number of special problems …read more

Dating, Marriage and the Year of the Rat

Overheard something while I was riding in a cab this afternoon and the driver was listening to talk radio. The announcer mentioned something about the significance of the ‘Year of the Rat’ to single women looking to hook up.
In case you guys didn’t know, 2008 is the Year of the Rat.
What she said was that this year is the year that women will most likely marry younger men or, at least, be attracted to them. So, I’m guessing they’re referring to single ladies who haven’t really considered the ‘younger market’.
I reckon this is good news then, yeah? More …read more

Must Read: Ode to the Nice Guys

This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what a$sholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, …read more
