In the winter several of us get chapped hands. The backs of our hands get red, the skin cracks and bleeds and they just hurt. Of course, having them in water doesn’t help but I am not willing to tell the kids that they can’t do dishes any more (aww)

Try to keep them dry

When you wash use a very mild soap, not antibacterial! It may be just us but we have to be careful of the soap and dish soaps we use here at the house. Even Ivory will leave our hands chapped, cracked, and dry. We use an organic goat milk soap for washing and Dr. bronners or Seventh Generation for cleaning.

Use lotion! The best thing I have found is organi, virgin coconut oil…it is antibacterial, anti fungal, healing…and it works. If your hands are chapped cover them with a coating of it and wear mittens to bed. Next morning you will be amazed at how much they have improved!

Stretch marks are something most women, and many men, have to deal with. Sometimes it is related to weight gain and loss…but often it is just one of the many side effects of pregnancy…for women anyway. If any guys get stretch marks when they are pregnant they are on their own.
Anyhow, having given birth to eight very large children, and having gained 60-80 lbs each time I understand about stretch marks.

I should probably have more than I do but after a couple of kids the stretch marks just use the same channels, if you know what I mean. No new ones.

See, with my first I gained all that weight, had her, and was wearing my size 6 jeans in two days. By number six baby it took me eight months to get into a size 6 and after number eight we are just not talking about it. Never, I repeat, never give birth and start peri- menopause on the same day. I am at the age where I go into the pharmacy and try to decide whether to buy the pregnancy test or the menopause test.

Rambling…sorry..people do that when they get old.

There are some things you can do to lessen stretch marks and even cause them to go away. Do keep in mind that over time they will fade. ..the sad truth for most of us is that once the Mom part of our lives begin the bikini part seems to end…sad but true.

Homemade Stretch Mark Remedy

1/2 c organic extra virgin, cold pressed olive oil

1/4 c aloe vera gel

1/4 c organic cold pressed coconut oil warmed to a liquid

liquid from 12 Vitamin E capsules (d-ALpha not dl-Alpha)

Liquid from 8 capsules vitamin A

Mix together and keep in the fridge. Use this once a day in the morning. Each night rub the area with cocoa butter.

Four of my kids were away at church camp in Oklahoma last week..They had an absolute blast. The came back exhausted. And burnt to a proverbial crisp.

Sean and Nick had areas on them that were burnt so bad that they were peeling and raw. OUCH! Thank God they have a habit of wearing hats and thier faces were protected. Somewhat.

You know how you see something and it makes you actually hurt? Well it was that way looking at them.

I made a very strong gallon of black tea. I think I used about a cup of loose black tea to a gallon of water and steeped it a long time…30 minutes?

Then I ran them a cool bath, poured in the strained tea, and added 1/4 cup of organic coconut oil. I had them soak for about 30 minutes with no soaping or washing…the dirt soaked off eventually.

When they got out we patted them dry. I felt their skin and sw tht it still had a layer of oil form the coocnut so I left things as they were. If I had felt no oil I would have rubbed them down with it.

This morning? Tans. No burn. No blisters. No peeling. A little pink raw skin. Best of all, no pain.

I learned this little trick when MArc was at Camp LeJeune. WE had only been married a year and he bought me a tiny sting bikini..back when, you know, I looked GOOD in one. We headed for the beach and stayed all day.

ARGH!

For several days I wore one of his shirts and nothing else. Every movement hurt. Somewhere, and I honestly can’t remember where, I heard about black tea. I made it and soaked for hours…and the next day the burn was gone.

Give it a try and let me know what you think

Bananas are delicious. They make great banana bread and muffins. They are fantastic in organic corn flakes with raw goat milk (yeah, just trust me on that one)…and they are a great cure for both poison ivy and warts.
Huh?
The banana peel has salicylic acid in it. The same stuff as in aspirin and white willow. Anyway…it helps to dry up poison ivy. Just eat the banana and then rub the peel over the poison ivy.

Do this a couple of times a day until you are either sick of bananas or your poison ivy goes away. Pretty cool, huh?

To get rid of warts cut a small piece of fresh peel and tape it over the wart. Keep the inside against the wart an the yellow part out. Change it daily. A band-aide will hold it on there pretty well. In a week or so the wart should fall off…or be gone, depending on the size and your body chemistry.

Banana peels are also great to sooth mosquito and chigger bites.

If you have hemorrhoids then the application of the inside of a banana peel to the painful area is healing and soothing.

So next time bananas are on sale, especially organic bananas…hey..pick up a ..ahem…bunch.
