I recently participated in a local podcast that touched on this topic and, somehow, raised good arguments.
How does social networking sites affect real life relationships?
One is online and the other, well, IS generally offline even when some of it IS spent online.
Some of the questions raised and tried to find answers to were:

Will you ask your partner to delete photos/albums of his or her exes?
Why is that bit important to you?
Is it important for partners to update their profiles?
Why is it important to update?
Why keep an account (Friendster, Multiply, Orkut, MySpace) even when it has been dormant?

I’ve been noticing that apart from the usual online dating sites, people have resorted to social networking sites to find dates.
It’s actually not a bad idea if you think of it. What do you really need in a site to find someone you can date anyway? Isn’t it all about finding a person whom you can connect with?
I’ve got to admit that I have gone on dates with people I met through sites like these — social networking sites, I mean. I can’t say it’s 100% better than online dating sites, it’s just another alternative to finding Mr. Right.
