Luckily, there are fun ways to include your dog – how about making Fido their own Valentine’s Day dog treats?

This site has some great ideas and recipes for creating your own dog-safe treats for the holidays!  They even have a special Valentine’s Day section.

Here are a few basic tips for creating your own special treats for your dog:

• White chocolate, carob and white confectioner’s coating are all dog-safe.
• Milk, dark, sweet or bittersweet chocolate are not dog-safe – and can even be deadly if your dog eats enough.
• Dogs don’t really need a whole lot of sugar, so why not use apple sauce or cottage cheese to “ice” cookies or treats?
• Same thing with salt – if a recipe calls for lots of salt or even soup stock or bouillon mix, you can reduce it.
• Does your dog have food allergies?  Make sure to not use anything in the cookies that could upset their stomach.

Paw prints & Pets – the best of b5media’s animal blogs this week

I would like to suggest some New Year’s resolutions for my dogs.  While I don’t hold much hope that they’ll agree to them, it’s worth a try…

In 2009 I solemnly resolve…

• To let my parents sleep through the night, and not wake them up three times because I need to go roll in the snow.
• To not eat my mom’s good paper, art supplies or craft supplies.
• To not try and steal cups of coffee belonging to humans.
• To let my parents have some of blanket when I sleep on the bed.
• Not to throw up on the beige carpet, but to aim for the lino in the kitchen instead.
• To let my parents sleep in on weekends and not wake them up by sitting on their pillows and licking their faces.
• Not to shred every piece of important mail in the house.

I was browsing through some of my favorite blogs this morning and squealed when I saw that Dooce had posted about a charming Doxie pillow she had found on Etsy.

Well, of course that one is sold out, but the designer, Pink Baby Mouse Shop has more pillows and designs in different colors, including this yellow one:

Is that not seriously adorable?  As the designer says “Everybody has their problems; whether you bite your nails or compulsively lick your own fur, let’s celebrate our imperfections!”

Celebrate the holidays with a gingerbread dog house

Here are a few more photos from my house:

My Christmas tree – that’s one of the dog’s stockings on the right side of the tree.  Hey, they’re part of the family too

I like to hang bells on the lower boughs of the tree.  Our dogs brush against them and make the bells tinkle – it’s very seasonal.  I wouldn’t do this if my dogs were prone to snitching ornaments – you don’t want your dog swallowing bells!

I made these reindeer quite a few years ago, and every year my dogs think they’re toys when they get unpacked.  Are your dogs toy-crazy as well?  Make sure to keep your treasured decorations out of the reach of your pooch.
